STOPPING DIORRHEA?

My DD is 10 months old and has had diorrhea for over a week now. She only has it 2/3 times a day but how do you 'harden' it up? She hardly drinks either and she won't touch the dioralyte the Dr gave her. Any ideas?

It takes time to work its way through the system and then get Back to normal. She needs to drink to flush it all out and then you could try probiotics or even "live" yoghurt to restore the balance of good digestive bacteria, toast, rice, root veg etc. Is she still peeing ok, if she is drinking so little, as that would be a dr's main concern. If it persists see the dr again with a sample in case it is a bacterial rather than viral infection.

Thanks. Her nappies aren't as wet as usual, but she's still going abit. I've been tempted to give her loads of fruit to get her water from that but I don't want to make her diorrhea worse. May get some yoghurt then. Is it nice?

The risk with yoghurt is that dairy could make it worse so be warned and perhaps just a little to begin with. Apparently health food stores do a formula of probiotic powder for infants which you sprinkle into water. tbh I'd avoid fruit for the time being.

What about dry biscuits?

Should be ok.

has it stopped yet? my DD has been the same since thrusday - very runny and leaking out of nappies, but only 2 or 3 times a day or night (its great fun changing her at 2 or 3am!)

she's eating and drinkin ok and seems her normal happy self.

i've been trying to give her bananas, rice, pasta etc but it seems to be taking its time to become solid again.

Mollymoo my 10 month old boy has had this for over a week now. He's not eating anything. Only breastmilk. He's also quite clingy with it, which is tiring.

I agree about avoiding fruit and dairy.

Scrambled egg is supposed to be good isn't it?

My DS has it as well, had it since Friday. Took him to doctors yesterday and he sai it was "THE BUG" that is doing the rounds and if it is no better by Wednesday to take him back. I thought dairy made it worse as well, but doctor said just give him what he wants and to keep his fluids up... So we will see

Agree re the dairy thing - my dr told me to keep ds2 off all dairy as the bug ferments in it. Am sprinkling acidophillus (sp?)(probiotic powder) in all drinks and flavouring drinks (very dilluted ribena working at the moment) to encourage him to drink more. Good luck!

Mine has reverted to pure bright yellow newborn baby poo. Sorry if TMI. I'm just grateful for breastmilk as he's not taking anything else.
