Poo

Hi mys osn recently had a case of constipation and because of this he is now holding in his poo!!! I have tried getting prune juice and orange juice and andrews salts and alsorts into him but he is refusing everything and will not even sit on the toilet to try and poo as he thinks it will hurt. I have tried to get him to understand that if he were to do a poo everyday it would be fine but he won't listen and is just holding onto it!! Will the doc prescribe movicol for him? If so does this help? the last time the prune juice worked and he was forced to sit and poo the huge hard lump out first and was in agony!! I am beside ,yself now!!!

My now 6 year old daughter did this at a similar age. It was very stressful so I can really sympathise. Dr prescribed lactulose and movicol which did work. However my daughter would not sit on the toilet so I put her back in pull ups and eventually whilst she was running around crying and holding it in, she would just go. Once the poos got softer over the next few weeks with the movicol, she realised that they didn't hurt anymore and started going to the toilet again. Good luck. X

Laxatives can help but if it's really hard you might need to apply some vaseline around his anus to help out the hardest first bit. Go see your GP for some advice, it's really very common don't worry. :)
