Utterly exhausted.

Is it possible that past lack of sleep is catching up with me? that is what it feels like. Can lack of iron in pg and then breastfeeding catch up with me even though i stopped bf'ing 3 months ago, and eat well (most of the time?) and even though I had HG in pg, and did not have low iron (it stayed good all the way through)

My DS is 19 months old and now sleeps through (mostly). I sleep well most of the time, have nights when I wake up a lot, and no matter what time I go to bed, or wake up in the night if the kids need me, I wake at 6am or so, and then doze.

But, recently, I have been almost unconscious, rather than sleeping, that is how it is feeling. I hardly move in my sleep I am so tired.

It does come and go and I have days when I am ok in the daytime, just hits me at about 7pm. I am in bed by 9pm latest, on good days. I rarely stay up as I struggle to keep my eyes open.

And today, I struggled to get up, i struggled to wake up. And I had to get up for work, and even as I lay there knowing I was going to be late, I just dozed off again. My head and my body just refused to move.

I have been tired all day, like proper yawning and sleepy tears. I am normally fine, even after a bad nights sleep, in the day time, plenty of energy just slow down earlier. But not at the moment.

I have spent all afternoon struggling to get off the sofa after work, forced myself, and while i was moving about, my eyelids just wanted to shut, I have had tears streaming down my face from feeling exhausted, my bones feel weary.

And now, I feel so tired, I am almost past tired, if that makes sense. I actually feel a bit hot and have a headache I feel so tired. I feel quite tearful, have not had tea and no energy to cook it. I am going to bed soon and i know I will be asleep in minutes.

Why on earth am I feeling like this? It started when I started running about 2 months ago? but i have not been running for a while so it is not that. I eat well, most of the time. I am drinking more water than I used to. It started before the weather became hot but on and off and currently it is worse than ever. I am drinking less coffee, but not suddenly, so not caffiene withdrawal and don't think i drink too much either. I drink alcohol about averagely, 3-5 glasses a week. I smoke rarely, around 1-7 rollies a week (normally with wine). I am relatively fit and healthy so what is going on?

Any change in urine output?

Chaotica · 06/07/2011 21:03

I'd get rid of the implant (as well as get other tests). It might well be the culprit.

bluebump · 06/07/2011 21:07

This is exactly how I feel at the moment, everything except for the swollen feet. I have a constantly twitchy eye on the go this week too, the sort you get when you are really tired. I'm off on my hols at the weekend, if after a decent long break I still feel terrible i'll go to the GP too.

Pavlovthecat · 06/07/2011 21:15

etti urine output same as normal, dependant on whether I remember to drink more water! but nothing out of the ordinary i would say. Same with bowel movements, all working ok and nothing unusual to report!

chaotica I am reluctant to get rid of implant as only just had it put in, took me forever to get it sorted, had merina coil which migrated out and hate the pill, am very fertile so need something v reliable! Also, had it before with no problems at all, although it was the implanon version not this new one, i thought the only difference was this new one had a blue dye in it so it showed on on scans etc so should be the same. Although I guess my body will change and react differently to things as I grow older...

I think I will go to GP. I am only 33 (34 next week!) so swollen feet and shattered all the time just can't be 'normal'. I am hoping it is just iron deficiency. I will take some supplements, what is best to take? muti v or vit specific? I do spend a lot of time outside, despite the crap weather so sun deficiency is not likely?

Could you be diabetic?

ellaeleven · 06/07/2011 21:39

Similar situation here. I went to my docs on Mon because I can not carry on with this tiredness. I have a 19 month old who is just starting to sleep better but when my alarm goes off in the morning my body is so heavy and achey I just cant move. I eat well, take a mound of vits, try and get exercise. The tiredness causes me to be forgetful, irritable and overwhelmed when I have alot on. I even thought I may be pre-menopausal because I was getting hot flushes too. The doctor thinks not (I'm 36). She suggested I take a holiday from my baby, (I wish) or was my mood low (mostly happy person just knackered!)
Anyway, have been sent for blood tests for thyroid, ferritin, hormone levels and total blood count. Just hope something shows up.
Please go to your doctor Pavlov. It may be a process of elimination but then it may be something obvious in your blood tests and you can then fix it and be lifted out of the fog Smile.
Good luck.

Chaotica · 06/07/2011 23:39

Fair enough if you've had the implant before and been OK. Your symptoms sound like those I had with the mirena, so I thought it just might be evil hormone imbalance. I hope you find out what's going on.

Pavlovthecat · 08/07/2011 19:50

Queefer - pretty certain I am not diabetic but will take a look at the link.

I have a docs appt made for monday. I shall be armed with list of symptoms and resolve not to be fobbed off with it being depression (normally happy, just tired!) or family tiredness.

In the meantime I have not cut out bread/pasta but neither have I been gorging on it. I have reduced my caffeine intake to just 2 cups in the morning and one in the afternoon and drinking camomile tea as a hot drink replacement at work as I don't really like water on its own very much. I am not being strict with it, if I fancy a coffee I will have one after my afternoon cup but just thinking of paying more attention to what I might need and not having coffee just because someone at work says' coffee?' as they walk passed with the tray to make drinks for everyone.

The best thing u can do is talk 2 ur doctor explain all symptoms and ask 4 everything 2 b tested.

Relying on internet diagnosis can do more harm than good and can cause unneccessary stress. It is better to have accurate facts

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 08/07/2011 21:49

Definitely write down all of the symptoms that you've told us about, along with dates that they all started if you can remember.

You could go armed with a urine sample just in case they want to test it. A full set of blood tests would be a good starting point for your GP.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

ok, i went to GP, had a list but forgot it as I run about going to derriford for DDs gymnastics club and then back to drop her off so was running late!

So, I have felt better for a couple of days, not brilliant but much better. Main prob is the state of my feet (mostly red/purple blotchy most of the time) and slight chest pain. I told GP I felt daft as the symptoms did not really seem very much each of them on their own, told her about tiredness feet, back/chest pain. Forgot to tell her about headaches and hot flushes and slight achey muscles.

She asked about weight, I said i felt like i had put on weight mostly around my tummy and put this down to the implant.

She told me I was not being daft at all. She checked my lungs/clear, checked my weight, 9st. I told her this was normal as I had only dropped 2lb from my normally pretty static weight, but then thought maybe I should not have said anything as I have bloated belly and no weight gain! I just thought of thought weight fluctuated. Oh well!

She asked me how I am feeling in myself (code for are you depressed), and I tried hard to sound happy without looking like i was pretending to be happy if you know what i mean!

Did not give me any clue about what it might be causing it all, said she would send some blood off for a bunch of tests but not what for, just sort of said everything, while smiling an awful lot!

I asked if Iron or something and she just nodded and said 'lets wait for the test results ok?!'

So there we are, booked for blood test on thursday, 2-3 days for results.

OP posts:
IntotheNittyGritty · 12/07/2011 01:26

Just curious - why are you waiting til Thursday for blood tests? If you had them done today you would have the results by Thursday/Friday and then not have to be worryig over the weekend.

If yo have a form, you can also take it straight to the hospital for them to do

dontrunwithscissors · 12/07/2011 12:09

I'd definitely suggest going to the GP; it's not normal to be this tired. I suffered from extreme fatigue and was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid (hashimoto's, an auto-immune condition where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland. This is the most common cause of an underactive thyroid). I didn't have problems with my circulation, but I believe that can be a symptom. I did have night sweats, extreme tiredness, weight gain around my middle, and I ached. Some days were worse than others. This was a year or so after I had DD2. Pregnancy can be a trigger for hypothyroidism. I hate to say this, but there's also a strong link between hashimoto's and gluten intolerance. I'm still quite tired, despite being on thyroxine since February and having OK test results. I'm about to have blood tests to see if anything else is going on.

dontrunwithscissors · 12/07/2011 12:11

Whoops! Just seen you have a blood test booked Blush

Pavlovthecat · 14/07/2011 15:26

intothenittygritty Dr does not do bloods, she gets the nurse to do them, and first avail appt was today.

had two lots taken, and they are doing a full blood count plus a 'biochemistry' which apparantly includes thyroid, liver, kidneys, and some other stuff. I wonder if they will do coeliac test with all that?

OP posts:
Pavlovthecat · 14/07/2011 15:28

oh and I won't get the results til monday as there is a locum on tomorrow who will only do urgent work, so if results do come back tomorrow, he will not check them and so the receptionist won't be able to give me results even if ok as won't be checked by a GP til monday!

UndiscoveredApprentice · 14/07/2011 18:21

I have to say I am thinking heart, perhaps? And if it is the good news is there is LOTS that can be done, and much better finding out before your symptoms cause you health problems. Good luck.

IntotheNittyGritty · 21/07/2011 22:32

How are you Pavlovthecat?

Did you get anywhere with your results?

Virgopower2314 · 08/02/2017 20:48

sotiredbutworthit · 08/02/2017 20:54

Have you had your thyroid checked?

MichaelSheensNextDW · 08/02/2017 21:00

zombie thread.

Happybee09 · 08/02/2017 21:01

Hope whatever it is you get it sorted, it's so difficult to put a finger on the exact problem when the symptoms are similar for many issues.
I would keep an eye on your feet though, only because you mentioned about the blueness - 2 of my relatives have had problems with clots, one had blue feet (cleared when moved) and the other had pains in her leg l.
