My dd has had diarrhoea for the past three days. Doctor v rude and totally unhelpful, so she has been eating nothing but dry toast and drinking plenty of fluids. The diarrhoea has left her bottom so sore. This morning it looks red raw. DD won't let me wipe it, so I have to pin her down to clean it and she won't let me put any cream on her, so have taken to lining her nappy with the stuff before putting it on. She is so uncomfortable, she can hardly walk and is sitting very gingerley. Can anyone offer any advice? Feel such a bad mother and hate seeing her suffering.

Have you tried Metanium nappy rash cream? It's very good and works quickly. It is quite strong so you don't need loads. My dd2 had a similar thing when she was 10ms or so, and this cream really helped. HTH.

oh hopey sounds awful,i've always given my kids yakult for diarrhoea,i think dd was 1 1/2 last time she had it,if the diarrhoea has stopped try and let her walk around the house without a nappy for a little while, warm olive oil will be very soothing, good luck

DD is 2. The doctor told me not to give anything but toast or bread, dry. She won't let me touch her bottom, she screams and its a real fight. Have a spray on nappy cream and have just smothered her in that.

Definately try metanium esp at night when you'll have to put a nappy back on

My ds had something similar ti this last christmas but it lasted for 12 days. I used to pop him in the bath and clean his bum with the shower hose. Hope she is better soon.

Have you got a rehydration drink for her - Boots do them - they have glucose and some salt in them which can just keep their mineral levels ok.

Poor her, and poor you! Hope she's better soon.

Kamilosan is good too for sore bottoms

Queenie · 10/10/2003 10:41

I good rehydration alterantive is flat lemonade or cool boiled water with sugar and a pinch of salt - don't remember quantities but say a pint of water to 5 teaspoons of sugar. Have given this to my son when he was 10 mths and unwell. I find sudocream works really quickly for burning bum syndrome and popping them in a cool bath as previously suggested gives some relief as well as lots of cuddles. Wish her better soon!!xx

Try drying her bottom with a hairdryer, the blowing air is soothing, all the little cracks get dry and the nivelty will keep her amused.I was told not to put cream on the nappy because this stops the nappy being absorbant and so the amonia stays on the surface making the situation worse.
I would try to leave it off asmuch a possible ,also I have cleaned bottom witha little baby oil on cotton wool it makes the cotton wool slide on the skin.

I hope she feels better soon.

I am a huge proponent of oatmeal baths--I have said this is many of the threads, a bath in bicarb couldn't hrut. Hopey, I don't know how old your DD is, but yougurt works wonders to help put the good bacteria back in the system. I agree with wearing the nappy as little as possible also. Rice and Bananas are great for binding as are apples.
