Hi. Does anyone have this and if so can you remember what your first symptoms were?

I had gestational diabetes 3 years ago and my father is diabetic so I am trying to be aware of it.

At the moment I am a good stone overweight, but seem to be carrying most of the excess on my tummy...... could this be a sign?!
I know it says thirst and peeing lots are signs but with a weak bladder post children its quite hard to tell!

Any thoughts would be really appreciated.

It's OK, Footle. You've all been really helpful so far. My family thinks it's my own fault.

I hope you feel better soon:)

I thought the days were gone when we always had to take the doctor's advice and say nothing and just accept it all. How are supposed to manage such a condition if we don't have the tools to do it?

crystal - thank for posting that makes feel alot better that I'm not the only one taking this approach.

I have also just read a book by Patrick Holford about dealing with type 2 - it makes interesting reading.

Also reading what Dr John Briffa has to say as well

Ended up at A&E last weekend with side effects from taking the Metformin. On call doctor asked me if I had discussed the effects with my GP. I told him I don't seem to be able to get past the diabetic nurse. Not once since being diagnosed have I discussed my diabetes with my GP. I've lost half a stone since starting my weight loss and yesterday went to the diabetic clinic. It took all of ten minutes with the diabetic nurse. I told her I had come off the Metformin. Now on slow-release Metformin.

Doctor at Emergency told me to go and see my GP the next day to discuss my diabetes and put to him what I wasn't happy about. Still couldn't get past the diabetic nurse.

Hi there,
I am a PhD student at the University of Southampton. I have been working with people who have both diabetes and depression for the past few years.

Having both conditions is quite common and some of the people I have spoken to have told me how they struggle to manage diabetes and depression at the same time. All types of diabetes, including gestational diabetes in pregnant women, are increasing worldwide and the number of people trying to manage diabetes with depression is likely to increase.

Based on interviews with people who have both conditions I have designed a questionnaire looking at how people make sense of and manage having both conditions. I'm hoping this questionnaire might be used to help people with diabetes and depression in the future.

I would be really grateful if anyone who has diabetes and depression would like to take part. Further information and a link to the questionnaires online are available
Under Media/non-member requests:Diabetes and Depression Research

If anyone has any questions or would like more information then please get in touch.

Thank you!
Jenny
