Gassy stomach - farting

My 3 year dd has always had a very gassy stomach. Right from when she was a baby she used to cry alot and pass wind. The doctors said it was colic, but the problem is that she still suffers from this. It varies from day to day and doesn't seem to be linked to any food allergies. She farts(not constantly, but maybe 4-5 times a day) when at nursery and this worries me - as she gets older it starts to get more and more unacceptable. I'm worried she will be bullied for it. Just wondering if any of your lo's do fart in public and how you deal with it.

The doctors don't take it seriously and think they find it amusing more than anything else.

I honestly feel like I can't talk to anyone about this, so would appreciate any thoughts/suggestions.

Children do fart a lot - younger ones even more so because they're not selfconscious about it so they do it a lot more freely than adults do. I wouldn't worry about it.

a lot of wind can be a symptom of having too much yeast in the gut. (If youve ever made home made wine, youll know what Im on about). It is called a candida infection (candida = yeast), and if it goes untreated, eventually the sufferer gets allergic to the yeast, and then gets constant allergic reactions.

It is hard to imagine that a small baby would have this though. But, if it becomes a problem when she is older, you might want to try a week of a totally sugar-free diet, and see if anything changes. (if it is yeast, then starving it of sugar would have a noticeable effect, ie the wind would stop)

Lol at starlover - I'm sure you don't do it noisly in public though!
Will try some food elimations like sugar - thanks

Mala - my Ds has same problem (posted earlier, slightly more rudely than you, under 'DS Farts)
Someone suggested cutting down on wheat, which Iam trying with him. But the yeast idea, which is obviously linked with bread, is another point. My DS2 has just been on a yeast free diet for 6 weeks because of behavioural, skin and digestive problems. It has made his bowels completely normal for first time ever! (He's never been very windy, though - just loose poo.)
What a lovely topic for just before supper!!
