Is this routine carly (eg as part of 2 year check) or has he been referred because of hearing problems/ear infections?

We have had both and the audiologists, who are all lovely in our experience, conduct a range of tests including timpanograms (checking eardrum pressure by using a thingy like an ear thermometer), distraction tests (tiny bells behind the child while bubbles are blown in front of them etc) and headphones for older children.

None of them hurt, some of them involve sitting still which can be tricky for toddlers.

Marina thanks for your reply he was refered last year to a SALT and i think this is routine and they do it to all who are refered to rule out any possible hearing problems he is three years old and hard to keep amused at the best of times

They are experts IMO. He will probably thoroughly enjoy himself. Hope it all comes back clear, we have been signed off after over a year of checks and hospital appointments. Good luck!

DS was checked when he was a few months old, because he had been on IV anti-biotics which can sometimes cause hearing problems.

They did put some soft sensor pads on his head and back of neck, and put some headphones on, and then looked at a computer to see what the pads were picking up.

Completely pointless as DS had to sit completely still for it to work. So on the way out, the audiologist spoke to him from behind his buggy, he looked round, and she said 'oh, he's completely fine!'
