Just feeling fed up today have RA but have also hurt my back, my own silly fault for lifting up something heavy which because of RA I am not supposed to do. Also been suffering with really bad face pain doc thinks prob arthritis causing that also. Got big 'do' to go to tonight & painkillers not working & doubled steroid dose & don't know what else to do except have a moan! I am so sick & depressed about being in permanent pain how do those of you in permanent pain cope?

Um, I want to tell you that you get used to it and it gets easier..

It's hard, really fucking hard, I live for the days where the pain isn't so bad.

Thanks empusa, really proud of myself as I managed really well last night & I hope noone would guessed I was in so much pain - I hate people feeling sorry for me. I know I'll suffer all week bcos of it but it was worth it too get dressed up & forget my woes even for a short time! & I know there are people far worse off than me!

I think having a moan is very therapeutic tbh - most of the time I don't admit to being in pain as no one really wants to hear 'yes, feel like someone is pouring boiling water on me all the time' when they ask if my arm hurts (its nerve pain / CRPS), and getting that off my chest can be good.

Having some emergency painkillers in the cupboard for the unbearable times helps me mentally too, and otherwise I use the TENS/have a bath/wheat bag or whatever on top of painkillers

I cope when it's in the back of my mind and is ignorable (I have fibromyalgia and facet joint arthrosis) but on days like you're clearly having i just moan and whinge and whine and feel sorry for myself. It's theraputic.

CMO Nerve pain is agony. I get it down both arms and legs and when i'm really bad it goes along my jaw into my teeth. I feel like i've been electrocuted :)

Are you being seen by a pain management specialist? Perhaps ask for a referal to a CBT specialist too may help with the mental side of the pain?
