I have been prescribed this for my DS for a nasty rash he has on his cheeks, he has suffered rashes before and they have healed evventually without treatment and so I am reluctant to use this on his face. My GP seems to think it will be OK, I am worried that it might make it worse - anyone out there used this before???

I had this years ago for eczema, it is really good and it cleared up my skin so fast I didnt have to use it for very long anyway. I also have to use hydrocortisone on my ds's face occassionally too. I really wouldnt worry about it if the doctor has prescribed it

my dd had it for infected eczema on her head. Worked very quickly! It won't do any harm if used sparingly and for a short time.

Jobean it is good cream, if the doc has recommended it I would go for it.

Thanks guys - I think I'll start it tonight. I'll let you know how we get on. Hopefully it'll clear for his first birthday in a couple of weeks

Good luck, we use it very often. I have been reasssured hydrocortisone is v mild and fine to use on the face. Presumably there is a bit of infection (hence the4 Fucidin), use it, it probably wont clear up without it (we have learned this from experience).

We too were prescribed it for a bit of yucky excema behind dd's ear - one application cleared it up! Great stuff!

jammamia · 09/10/2003 22:05

My ds had a patch of infected excema on his cheek, and the Fucidin did the job perfectly, strangely enough that was just before his first birthday too - now aged 5 with lovely skin!

Used it as well on ds1's skin when it was horribly infected. It's fine but if you use it for a while you will have to taper when you stop using it as it contains hydrocortisone (so apply alternate days etc slowly increasing the gap until you are off it) otherwise as soon as you stop the skin will flare again.

is it 0.1% HC? I have a feeling I had to taper onto a 0.05% HC then taper that in order to get off the creams.

Thanks for all your messages, oh why didn't I post it when it started and it would probably have cleared up by now. Oh well better late than never - started it again last night and it seemed to be better already this morning. Smiles all round
