Muscle weakness and now toe pain

Hi all,

I'm suffering from proximal myopathy as part of my long-standing alcohol abuse (have poor liver function test results and an abdominal ultrasound in a week, but this leg muscle weakness is my main physical symptom now that I've given up alcohol - in the main I feel much better). Original LFTs point to alcoholic hepatitis rather than anything worse.

When I was first diagnosed I could hardly walk at all and now can manage short trips out of the house / can go up and down the stairs a few times a day. I've been overdoing it a bit in the last week or so and my legs are now very painful / stiff again and now weirdly my toes seem to be giving me a lot of pain. My appetite's also dropped off again and, whilst I'm still eating a lot more than before I gave up alcohol, I'm not eating masses. Which may explain the increased weakness.

I don't know if anyone's suffered with this, particularly as part of alcohol recovery - I hope the pain might be symptomatic of improved blood flow to my feet as my legs and abdomen have felt quite numb for a long time. But my GP checked the pulses in my ankles only a couple of weeks ago and was happy.

Anyway, I'm off to have some blood taken tomorrow morning and will see if I can get an appointment to talk to my GP sooner than currently planned (week after next) but just wondered whether anyone had any words of advice in the meantime. I had been thinking a leg massage might be good to get everything flowing but my toes are just throbbing, it's horrible.

Thanks all.

Another little bump ... could it be gout? Has anyone had this?
