Severe tonsillitis in teenager - guilty mother

My poor 16 years old ds has a horrendous bout of tonsillitis. He has had a sore throat for a week which he has had paracteamol/brufen for. Yesterday DH took him to the doctor and he has been started on antibiotics. Today he sounds muffled when he talks and his neck is more swollen than yesterday. I have another appointment booked for this morning because it is the worst throat I have seen. I feel so bad because he is meant to be going abroad with the school on Thursday and I wish I had had him seen earlier. Parenting doesn't get any easier as they get older

How is he doing, mears?

mears · 17/11/2003 10:55

Thanks for asking Janh. He is doing really well. I am paranoid waiting for fatigue to kick in. Funnily enough a friend suggaested getting echinacea but on re-reading this thread I see Suedonim was told it is contraindicated with gf.
He returned to school (luckily it was holiday time) after being off for 2 weeks. He says he feels fine although he does get headaches, but he was prone to them before. I am hoping that since he is alright now, he will continue to be well.

I'm glad he's getting better, Mears. I bet he was seriously dischuffed about being ill over the hols, poor lad!

Oh, that's good news, mears. Hope he carries on taking it easy - this is probably a good time of year to have it from that point of view as there isn't a lot of rushing about to be done. (Well, assuming he doesn't normally play football or rugby?)
