MMR and eczema

I had been putting off DS MMR due to various worries. However, we finally made our decision and I was just planning on making the appointment for him to have it done when DS got a completely new flare up of eczema on his face (never had before, its quite bad). We have been to the GP and got some treatment for it but now I am wondering if DS has the MMR, will it make the eczema worse again? Is there any research about MMR and effect on eczema? Has anyone had any experience of this? I don't want to start an MMR debate, I just want to know if the vaccination can have an effect on eczema. Thanks

Does your ds have any egg allergies?

Some vaccines have egg in them and so this could trigger eczema. I'm not really sure if the MMR is I just know that when I was little I did not get some jabs because of being egg based as I had an extreme allergy to eggs.

No he isn't allergic to eggs. He doesnt have any allergies that I am aware of, unless this eczema is caused by something i haven't realised. I was just concerned because I am sure i read somewhere that you may need to be cautious about MMR and some auto-immune related things. Maybe i am getting all confused though.

i haven't heard of any studies suggesting MMR makes eczema worse.the auto immune thing is really when associated with gut problems, not skin problems as far as i know.

having said that, anything new can trigger existing eczema, but i don't know of MMR specifically doing that.

hmm - not sure. dd had mmr just as she was one. She was pretty unwell a few days after for a week or so. 2 weeks or so later she had a bad attack of eczema on her scalp (she had cradle cap and mild patches anyway) which became infected and disturbed her sleep. Were they related ? I don't know, as it coincided with weather change, heating going on etc any of which might have triggered it.

Eczema is an auto-immune disease.

sorry if i didn't make myself clear dinny, yes, know eczema is an auto immuned disorder, as is asthma, but the only studies i know of that look at MMR problems are to do with when a child has gut problems and an auto immune family history, and i don't remember anyone saying MMR made eczema worse. Might be wrong tho.

my understanding was that any autoimmune condition could be affected by MMR. thought about singles? had my dd's done at excellent hospital in Hemel that specializes in environmental conditions here
