Pelvic pain-Trigger Point Massage

Has anyone had this treatment to 'release' trigger points which might be causing pelvic pain (painful sex and periods)? I have been referred by my Gynaecologist (NHS) so I presume it has some success but have to admit I'm feeling a bit squeamish at the prospect of a stranger massaging my vagina! Grin Blush

Have you been checked for pelvic congestion syndrome or ashermans syndrome?

If not ask to be.

Havent had that massage though im afraid, not sure id want to either!! :)

Painful sex and or periods is also very indicative of endometriosis; that is also another possible cause of such problems.

I would certainly seek a second opinion from another gynae; you need to determine the underlying cause rather than them just trying to treat the symptoms.

I have had it a few times. For bladder pain and urinary frequency. It was a little odd at first but you get used to it. And I could definitely feel certain points that were very painful to touch. Worth trying.

Thanks Kit, did it help?

Have had some investigation for endo but nothing on a scan - next stage would be endoscopy, trying the physio first as less 'invasive' Hmm LOL .I think the point of pressure point IS that it treats the cause - they are like knots that form over years due to a range of reasons which i suppose you might be able to ascertain when you know which are the tender points.

Nullius, haven't heard of those - will google and consider!

I couldn't say for certain. Things have been better, though not perfect. I also was taking antibiotics at the same time as starting the treatment so it could have been the antibiotics that improved things. It certainly didn't make things worse!

Good luck with it - it is def worth a try and you soon get over any self consciousness - at least I did.

Hi I have pelvic venous congestion. It can cause during exercise. The test for it is a lot less complicated than when I was diagnosed. Ask your gyneacologist. :)

Interesting raphael and nullius - my mum had varicose veins in her uterus - she ended up having a hysterectomy because of it!! - so i will mention it to the physio and gynae, thanks.

raphael and newfashioned do you know what treatment options were given? and if it resulted in fertility issues? Asking as ive recently been told i may have this.

Endometriosis does not usually show up on any ultrasound scan or blood test; the usual way it is diagnosed is through a keyhole surgery op called a laparoscopy.

newfashionedmum · 11/06/2011 09:40

sorry nullius i don't but i'm sure it can be googled, suggest you proceed with caution but have a look.

attila thanks for the advice -i have a good book about endo and i do have some of the symptoms - tho not some of the key indicating ones - and i have been offered an endoscopy. I may go down this route further ahead - though not sure what i would then do if it was diagnosed. Am reluctant to go down hormone treating route bcs taking them doesn't seem to suit me.

I was diagnosed with simple multi ovarian cysts on my left ovary in 2003 the largest of them being 2 cm however was told that given the size, it should not present a problem for me .... How rubbish this was, I have experienced intermittent pains "pulling" "dragging" "stabbing" ever since, I was not referred for any follow up monitoring, if fact whenever I have been back to the GP when the pain had been presenting, I have been treated like a hypercondriac, have been told "you have a urine infection when my urine sample has been clear" " Have been told Perhaps the pain you are experiencing isn't as bad as you think it is" "been told I may have arthritis int my left hip" when explaining I was experiencing lower pelvic pain, treated for temporary high blood pressure, all of these have been treated as independent conditions even though when you read up about ovarian cysts they all can be symptoms experienced! On no occasion have I been taken seriously even when I have presented in tears, I have actually stopped going in frustration, even starting to believe I am imagining these symptoms! In the past week my symptoms have been constant and has resulted in me visiting the GP yet again yesterday with severe bloating (I look 6 months pregnant) fatigue, pain, going to the toilet to pass urine more regularly, vomiting/nausea to be told I will be sent for a ultrasound which will take approx. 4 weeks and again them wanting to treat me with a urine infection, even though my sample, yet again was clear!! So dilemma is, am I overreacting or should I go to A&E .... Fed up.com!!! Anyone else had a similar experience, am I worrying about nothing, should I just put up and shut up with looking pregnant at 51 and in pain!! views greatly appreciated :(
