Ds given wrong jab

Ds had half a flu jab and a pneumonia jab last week, the nurse phoned me today to say that she had given him the wrong one. The jab he had was for 2yrs+ and hadnt realised that someone had ordered the correct one for him. As it happens he has to have the 2nd half of his flu jab in a month, so will have the correct pneumonia jab then. She reasured me that the jab that he had, would have no effect at all.

I had the same jabs at the same time and the arm that had the pneumonia in was awful. For about 4 days my arm was "dead" and felt like someone had smacked it with a baseball bat! It is absolutely fine now!!

After Ds has had the correct jab, he will be having his MMR!!! Poor boy!

We had a couple of near-misses with ds1 when he was due to have his pre-school boosters. It was agreed that he would have the MMR but was to be given a DT jab instead of the standard DTP one as he is allergic to the pertussis element:

Appointment no.1: As the nurse was preparing the injection dh asked which one it was. It was a standard DTP jab. It was lucky that dh checked as ds1's reaction to the DTP is to stop breathing. Instead the nurse gave just the MMR and arranged for us to come back for the DT.

Appointment no.2: I asked which jab the nurse was going to give ds1. It was the MMR - despite it being noted on the computer screen on her desk that ds1 had been given the MMR the previous week.

I used to be one of those people who trusted that the staff knew what they were doing but I'm afraid that I now always double-check everything.

CT what will you be doing for number 3? AFAIK all peadiatric jabs now contain pertussis. Has anyone been able to tell you the policy fot children with family histories like yours? I wonder what they do if children have epilepsy - AFAIK pertussis was always contraindicated then as well.

I'm with coppertop, i now look at the jab before it's pulled. (They should do that infront of you, not have it ready).
Hope your son and your arm are o.k!

I'm not really sure what to do about no.3 tbh. Ds2 did eventually have the DTP and had no reaction to it but I'm still extremely wary of it. It's madness that there are no alternatives offered to families where there is a history of problems with immunisations. It was only through sheer luck that ds1 was able to have a DT jab. He was given it in late August 2004 and had what was probably one of the very last ones available.

It doesn't help much that my dad was against me being vaccinated when I was a baby because of the publicity about vaccines causing brain damage. I caught whooping cough and it was apparently quite nasty. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I left my previous gp surgery after a catalogue of errors and 'events'. One of the worst was when I took ds for his first set of jabs. The nurse began to prepare the vaccination and I, being nosey, picked up the packaging and realised that she was preparing to give him an injection of, effectively, saline. I told her there was something wrong and she asked me to let her do her job. I pointed out that the packaging said '1 of 2' and that the instructions were to mix it with another vial. She told me that I didn't know what I was talking about, and that I didn't understand the instructions. I kicked up a proper fuss, and in the end she went to check on the rest of the vaccinations in the fridge. On her way out she said to me "You don't trust me, do you?" My response was that wouldn't she make sure of everything if it was her son? "No", she said "I would trust the nurse." Then she returned, with another vial - this one containing the dry vaccine that needed to be mixed with the saline before injection. No apology for her stupid and elementary error. I have to wonder how many other infants were wrongly injected before I picked up on it.
