Blotchy baby! what could it be?

Took DD2 ( 5months) to the health visitor today because she is covered in blotched all over her tummy and back, they are red and look a bit like a finger mark (but they're not!), they aren't dry and don't seem to be itchy, we've not changed washing powder or fabric conditioner, we've not introduced any new foods into her diet and she is breastfed. She's had them a week.

HV has said we need to see GP but thought i would ask the mumsnet oracle

Does she have them on her face as well? Slapped cheek disease (or fifth disease) can cause marks like that but they usually start on the face before moving down onto the tummy and back. When my little sister had it, she didn't have any on her face at all, just on her trunk. It's a mild virus, just causes a sniffle and these marks.

Still not gone Katz? Glad you managed to see the HV; hope the GP sheds a bit more light for you.

katzguk · 14/11/2005 20:48

Hadn't thought of that, nothing on her face. It doesn't lok like the rash her sister had when she had it (i was 18 weeks pg at the time!)

nope hula still there

And presumably not like slapped cheek, like when your DD1 had it?

No idea what to suggest; never seen it before. She is still well and happy? Could it be related to her teething in any way - can't see how really but yuo never know.

katzguk · 14/11/2005 20:53

yep normal smiley self!

HV was pretty useless today, her answer to solving DD1 not being ill was to not talk in depth to her, to not explain things! yeah great!

Useful then. Hmmm. Not sure how her way would work with DD1. Surely being able to talk to her more means she is more likely to tell you?

katzguk · 14/11/2005 20:58

apparently just because she is articulate doesn't mean she understands! and therefore we could actually be making it worse by talking about it! i have to say i think she was talking rubbish! She also seemed to dismiss the death of DH's mum. We're to go along with her when she says shes not ill and just say okay!

well GPs was stumped too even called in a second GP to have a look and she was stumped too!!

So it will be off to the childrens hospital once they can arrange an appointment

Oh no, really. Presumably they are not overly concerned though?

katzguk · 15/11/2005 18:19

they didn't seem to show too much concern. Mainly because DD2 doesn't seem phases by it.

Also spoke to him about DD1 and he's suggested making an appointment to discuss it indepth with a GP with a view to seeing Child Physcologist, so slightly more possitive than the HV

Hope so; fingers crossed.

katzguk · 15/11/2005 18:23

oh well jugding by the time it takes to get an appointment it will almost certainly have gone and we will all be none the wiser
