Disucssion on NOW, You & Yours Radio 4, possibly can get it on Listen Again later.
Prof Lewis WOlpert claims that there is ZERO evidence of MMR/autism link having looked at all "credible" reseach. Does he think that peer reviewed research published in the Lancet is not credible, whatever all the other sources say?

Just found a really interesting link. Will try to find it again later. Apparently he is part of a committe who has given guidance to journalists listing which scientific researchers are "acceptable". Journalists should report these views and not others- and are apparently discouraged from presenting the alternative view.
Here it is:

All very conspiracy theory, but having observed how they continually trash Wakefield's work (when it's perfectly respectable) then I kind of believe it.

Wondered if anyone knew that stocks of Govt approved rubella vaccine are due to run out and from now on, women who need a rubella vaccine will get the MMR instead???!!! Found out from my dad who is a GP - he says that there has been no consultation with GP's or the general public. Now how typical is that!?

suedonim · 05/10/2003 13:16

There's a story about that HERE Lara. My ds has moved to America (he's 28 thus born in pre-MMR days) and he had to have an MMR shot even though he's had mumps and rubella. Ds was actually quite worried about having to have it, in case it caused any autoimmune type illnesses, as he'd recently had Glandular Fever and mild ME. Fortunately, he doesn't seem to have had any problems, but it is worrying to me that mass medication is being doled out almost like sweeties.

It also made me wonder about 13/14 year olds who have rubella vaccines. Or do they not do that anymore - is the MMR supposed to cover you for life?
We should be given choices about how we are vaccinated. I really do believe in vaccination on principal, but understand that it is a very thorny subject for ALOT of people.

Lara2, they don't do rubella at 13/14 any more, they do yet another MMR booster instead. (Have refused all MMR boosters for all my kids.)
