white tongue

my dd's tongue is all white and she refuses to eat. I suspect oral thrush but it's not in the form of spots, it's really covering the whole tongue, and she has nothing on her cheeks or lips. She also has a cold at the moment so her immune system is quite weak. Before I start the treatment, could it be a sign of anything else ? To add to this she's teething so that could be another reason why she's not eating.

I know it's a boring subject, but any ideas anyone ?

Sounds like thrush - it can form a thick white covering on the tongue rather than just small spots. Get her to the GP to have it confirmed though.

I thought a white tongue was just a sign of illness? And she is ill you say?

If it doesn't rub off when you try, it's thrush. Sure sounds like it to me, My son had this.
Are you feeding her?
If you are you'll both need to be treated as you'll pass it to and from one another.
You also need to crack on with it because you don't want the thrush spreading inside your milk ducts. (I had this. Awful!)

Same thing happened to me, spidermama, and it's not nice at all.

Fredly it'll be painful on her tongue if it's thrush. Even older kids can get this. It's easily treated with drops and then she could do with pro-biotics to build up the friendly bacteria which are supposed to keep it at bay.

Good luck with it.

Come to think of it, you could try rubbing it with cotton wool soaked in vinegar. A bit yucky I know, but it kills thrush.
