Sorry for TMI but am hoping someone else has had a similar thing and can tell me what on earth is going on.
Am on day 26 of cycle, period has arrived with mild cramping but looks very strange.
It is thick, dark (almost black) brown and is not even going into the pad just sitting on top.
Any idea what it might be? It's freaking me out!

Have you changed contraception/ Is it clotty/?

I am not on contraception, DH and I started TTC this month. I did have a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy 7 weeks ago but I have had two periods since then and both of them were quite normal (red and runny as opposed to this strange marmite-type period!)

Was the lap op performed because of suspected endometriosis?.

I have had very similar to what you describe and know what you mean about it sitting on top of the pad.

Blood like you describe is "old" blood and could be linked to endometriosis (brown blood which is also stringey or clotty in appearance can be symptomatic of endo). I would be speaking to the gynae asap about this latest development.

Mine are always like that. They sit on top when they are thicker - I get it when I get big clots so when it's heavy and the blood clots and gets thicker. I think brown blood is just older than the fresh, new stuff.

Yes Atilla I have endometriosis. It was lasered off during the laparoscopy. Gynae said he got all of it. I went back to see him on Wed but that was before this period, wish it was after so I could have asked him about it!

I thought that was why the lap was performed. Laps are usually done when endometriosis is suspected.

Would contact the gynae again re this matter, it warrants further investigation and comment from this person.

BTW www.endo.org.uk is an informative website.
