If you get MMR as an adult, will you need a booster later on?

Sorry if this has been asked before. Trying to persuade DH to get MMR as he has not had any of the childhood illnesses and our DC will be going to nursery soon.

HI there - how old is your hubby, the government recommend that all should have 2 MMR's one month apart.

I have recently had mine as my Gp refused to give it to me as a child - I had asthma at the time and thought it was too risky...but that was the 1970's and times and up to date knowledge and education have changed things.

The government recommend that those born before 1970 should have natural immunity to the diseases and those born after should have 2 doses.

The uptake for the MMR is improving and with time - we should as a nation get herd immunity form the diseases ( think you need about you 95% of the population protected to get it) - and we will hopefully get rid of it.

I would get your hubby vaccinated - measles, mumps and rubella is still out there and they are horrid and deadly diseases if caught.... get vaccinated!

Hi Suzy,

thanks for this. DH is in his early 40s so was born not much before 1970 - so maybe he should just go for it - if I can persuade him.
