Cautorising blood vessels in cervix

Been to the doctors this morning due to bleeding in between periods. After an examination she said I had prominent blood vessels on my cervix that was causing this and they needed to be cautorised. I have an appointment to get this done in a few weeks. Decided to try and find something about this on the web and have scared myself silly.

Is there anyone out there who has experience of this?
I assume I get a local anesthetic for this?
Am I going to be OK to drive home again afterwards?
Is this going to be a painful procedure?
I wish I knew what I was letting myself in for here and suddenly I am beginning to doubt if the problem is bad enough to justify getting this done.

Please can someone reassure me that this is nothing to worry about and I just need to go and get it done?

I remember that my mum had it done and then came and picked me up from school (driving). She is a hardy sort, but I figure it must have hurt a bit for her to mention it to me, but clearly not enough to stop her getting in the car and getting on with her life IYSWIM. Good luck!

It really isn't a big deal. It sounds hideous, but doesn't usually cause anything more than mild period-like cramps. The smell of burning can be slightly unnerving, given that you know it's you burning, but it really is a very minor procedure.

Thanks. Feel a bit better now. Must stop reading american websites that are probably describing a different procedure anyway.
OK, what can I start worrying about next Smile
