Haemorrhoids? Possibly TMI

I've name changed for this!

I'm pretty sure I have haemorrhoids and maybe a skin tag. Think I've had them for years but they weren't causing any problems. Now though I'm conscious of them and they hurt a little. They're outside not inside. DOn't bleed much, just hurt.

Gernerally I'd rather die than go to the doctor regarding anything arse related though weirdly I am fine with gynae examinations. I have never had my bum examined though. Blush

What is my GP likely to do? Is he/she going to want to look and what do they generally do about the external ones?

i have them and have never shown the doctor either, i just cant bring myself to do it, yes i know they have seen it all before blah blah blah, but not up my bum they haventGrin as far as i know they just prescribe the cream anyway, unless they give you ALOT of pain then they prob will want a closer look

so when mine hurt i just get some of the anusol cream and put that on. it sooths the pain alot for me.

I have also been suffering really badly with these for a while now and feel as though I am finally getting them under control with anusol suppositories, which are brilliant. They are basically just th cream but with being suppositories must get closer to where they need to be :o

TheGoddessBlossom · 15/05/2011 22:12

Soembarrassed this is me too. Am usually very stoic about doctor's appts but really can't face one for this....

Can you get the suppositories without prescription?

InGokNito · 15/05/2011 22:14

oh yes, supermarkets sell them

They are just the cream, but in a block and in bullet shape :o

Hi there - I have the same problem as you - SoEmbarrassed! I have had haemorrhoid's since my first child - 11 yrs ago, and they have left awful skin tags and a few hard lumps. I've really had enough of them - when ever I go to the loo - they swell and bleed and hurt! Over the yrs I have tried creams etc - but they are only a short term relief. Best thing I did was to improve my diet and take extra fibre - but even that has its limitations.

I finally had the courage to go to the gp last week and yes it was very embarrassing - but its done now and I am relieved to know I am being referred to a consultant to have them looked at. ( by the way the examination was very quick - and painless! you just have to not think about it too much - I had to lay on my left side with my knees up by my chest - she only used her finger and didn't use a scope. But I am sure that when I see the cons I am sure they will use a scope to look inside too! )

I really hope they can remove them - although I am not sure how. My haemorrhoids are all external - so I am not sure if it will be a quick opp or day surgery?

Are you going to get them looked at?

Thanks Suzy!

It's good to know what they actually do to you at the GP!

Mine aren't as painful as yours by the sound of it, they'er just a tiny bit achy especially after going to the loo.

I may see if they settle and try the over the counter cream for a couple of weeks before going to the GP.

Thanks everyone!

Seriously - use suppositories.

TheGoddessBlossom · 17/05/2011 18:54

It is appreciated Stealth. Sigh. Will get some suppositories. What has life come to? Does Angelina Jolie have to deal with this I wonder?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 18/05/2011 08:08

I had one, it was so painful I went to the doctor. She did put her finger up my bum which, astonished me. I don't know why I was so surprised, I had my skirt up and knickers off. She told me to buy some supps as it would be cheaper than paying for a script. I only used them once, I sat down too quickly and burst it. Much blood but the relief was indescribable.
DH had a couple around a month ago. I got his some cream from the pharmacy, they don't seem to sell the suppositories in Belgium. When it didn't help, he went to see our GP and she gave him some more cream and some tablets. He is clear of his arse raider now.
