Weird eyesight- should I see Dr or Optician?

Sorry, bit of a daft question maybe.

My eyes have been feeling a bit 'weird'
Every now and then I have double vision, and everything looks busy -hard to describe, but it's difficult to focus on any one thing.
I sometimes have really tight headaches as well.

Had to drive a short journey earlier (don't drive often) and it seems to have got much worse, I realised that I should really not be driving until I've seen someone. Couldn't make sense of the lane markings. So dangerous. Luckily very quiet time (7am)

I wear glasses for driving as I have an astigmatism, so not sure where I should go.
Common sense tells me optician?

Grateful TIA Smile

I would go to optician first, if they find anything requiring medical attention they will do a referral to your GP :)

Thanks! Easier to get optician appointment, so prefer that idea.
And they give me cups of tea... Wink

Agree with AmyStake, optician first. Hope they can get you sorted, sounds horrid.

Yes to opticians, a chum of mine recently had an eye problem and the opticians were able to give her some good advice, although she did end up needing to see someone at the hospital.

You say your sight seems to have got much worse -- since when? If you suspect it's sudden/recent, I would go to A&E. (Speaking from experience here.)

Have you covered one eye and then the other to see if the issue is with one or both?

NoCarbsBeforeMarbs · 15/05/2011 19:00

It's got worse in the last couple of weeks.
Not noticed it as much as today, but today was the first time I've driven on roads I don't 'know' so maybe made it more obvious?

I have very poor sight in my left eye, so wonder if it might be that one.

if you go to the optician first, if there's any problem which needs the hospital to look at it, then they can sort out appointments directly (most hospitals have an eye casualty department, seperate from A&E).

I'd see optician as well. Could be that your sight has worsened and you need a different prescription possibly?
Have you been stressed or anxious lately? I wonder if a type of panic attack could be making you feel that 'unable to focus' feeling?
I would always go somewhere though, to have it checked because I don't think you should ignore double vision.
Am sure there is a reasonable explanation and that your optician can reassure you, and at least you know they will suggest the dr if they think it's something that needs further investigation.

Hello again,
thanks all for the advice.

Sleeping, you pretty much had it it spot on!
Went to optician yesterday and they took a look at my glasses first, apparently they are not the same prescription as my contact lenses, so the left lens is not strong enough (or something like that!)
Having some new ones made up.

Also they agreed that stress could make me a bit blurry - my grandma died a couple of weeks ago, and life in generally a bit of a pita right now.

Hopefully things will improve slightly though, with the new specs.

Thanks again, much appreciated Smile
