Should a healthy 30 year old male get the chicken pox vaccine if he hasn't had the disease as a child? Just a bit worried about a friend. My kids had chicken pox ages ago, but it always seems to be around and it's contagious before people know they are infected.

Thanks!

I had chicken pox earlier this year for the first time, if I had known how bad it would be I think I would have had the vaccine.

Yes it is probably wise especially if he is contact with children.

I had it at 25, couldn't get up for 2 weeks was sick for at least a month. I was unemployed so not so bad... I ended having to take antivirals.
If I didn't and wasn't cared for by my mum I would have probably ended in hospital, as a friend of mine did in his 30s (single expat means usually delayed care).

He can have a blood test to make sure he is not already immune to the disease (I think it is possible to have immunity without actually developing the disease fully).

My ds has had the chicken pox vaccine because he has eczema.

Dh worked with a man in his thirties who caught CP from his son and died. Yes if he isn't immune he should look in to getting the vaccine.

an adult relative of mine had CP when he was 40, had a really bad time of it and needed anti-virals in the end

Thanks everyone, I will let him know.

If he can then I would - my dad got CP in his 40s and was really unwell with it (off work for about 3 or 4 weeks I think).
