Any experiences? Googling is upsetting me with words like:

chronic
hair-loss
disfiguring
management (as opposed to 'cure')

GP is referring me to dermatology.

It's on my face.

Experience? Advice? Suggestions? Positive stories?

Please.

Am I alone in my lurgy?

I had this years ago with acne.
Saw a Dr Chu at Hammersmith Hospital who was absolutely fantastic and as well as other medication for acne he prescribed Nizoral shampoo which you can now buy over the counter. I had to use it as a face wash, I think morning and night. It worked.
I had had dry skin on my face for years, even trying a bufpuf (if any of you remember those - like a scouring pad!) to try and cure my persistent dry skin.
If ever I feel my skin getting a bit dry on my face, which is virtually never now I use this regime.
Good luck. Let me know if it works,

Thanks for answering!

What was or is your regime?

My GP has prescribed Nizoral cream, which seems to be helping, and by trial-and-error I have settled on the one moisturiser that doesn't sting or seem to make it worse, pure coconut oil. The condition is still active and spreading, though. Did Nizoral stop yours completely?

Pretty Candles
Just buy the Nizoral shampoo, and use it as face wash.
Please give it a whirl, your Gp is obviously on the right track with Nizoral cream.
I would say that Nizoral did stop it completely.
Have a container of Nizoral shampoo on the side of my bath that must be 4years old now, but I keep it there as I have once or twice had to use it between my eyes at bridge of my nose when I think the dermatitis might have started again.
I can honestly say I never looked back after trying this regime.
Please try it!

Sorry, I misunderstood, I thought the regime you mentioned was Nizoral plus what your Dr Chu prescribed.

Are you now able to use regular moisturisers and cleansers?

Use Olay cleanser and water.
Use Clinique redness solutions moisturiser and foundation these days (rosey complexion, alhough pretty good now since using these products )
Not on any medication now, but really want to encourage you to give the Nizoral shampoo a go. Only about £6.Could change your life, I really hope so.
Please try it.

PrettyCandles · 13/05/2011 23:09

I will, thanks.

I will continue with the Nizoral cream until - I hope - it clears up, but I will also use the shampoo.

Thank you so much for your posts! It's the first genuinely optimistic thing I've read about seb derm. Such a relief to know that the chronic stuff I've been reading about on seb derm forums etc isn't the only way that this condition progresses.

Just another thought Pretty, when I used the nizoral in the mornings it would be the first thing I did in the shower, ie wet hands, get some shampoo and rub it on my face. Have the rest of my shower and then lastly rince the shampoo off my face. Therefore it stayed on my face for the duration of the shower, maybe 5 minutes.
Let me know how it goes.i'll look out for you!

I've been using a shampoo from www.skinsalveation.com which not only has got my terrible itchy scalp problems under control, but the side effect has been it seems to work as an excellant facewash! My skin is absolutely glowing!.I heard its also used for acne with good results.Worth a look at it,
