Recurrent Iritis

Anyone else suffer with iritis? I've just spent all day at the hospital again after having something like my 15th attack in two years. New doc finally decided to do blood tests/x-rays but apparently there's no cause to be found in the majority of cases. of course I'm worried I might be in the minority having had so many attacks.

I'd be grateful to hear others' experiences. Does anyone else feel achy and fluey when they have a flare up?

Pokhara, thank you, that's a very interesting site. It's very helpful - although scary!- to read the personal stories. Does your son know what is causing his attacks? My last consultant just said "HLA B27, treat it at home" !!

Luckily, after an attack every 2 months for the last 2 years, my new dr decided to order some tests....

My young son has had this once, and it was very painful. He has crohns disease, and Iritis we were told is a side affect of this.
Not sure if you have any other symptoms Okonomiyaki, but it may be worth mentioning this to the doctor.

Do you know which blood tests you are getting. With that marker and your other symptoms I think it may come under the remit of a rheumatologist. Do you have any other conditions? (for instance psoriasis?)

pokhara · 13/05/2011 18:53

hi my son is under a rheumatologist and uveitis specialist ophthalmologist, he has had some bloods back last week and no obviouis cause although he complains on leg pain.

Even though he hasnt jia they are considering methotrexate.

With your HLA B27 you should defo be getting care from the hospital.
If you get on the forum on that site, there are some really good people who will give you brilliant advice. they helped me make some big decisions

I have no other symptoms thankfully, although there is crohns and rheumatoid arthritis in the family, which I think is why the first consultant assumed that I am HLA B27 positive. It will be interesting to get the results - it's just a guess at present!

As far as I can see they're checking for inflammatory markers and for HLA B27. Also had an xray of the sacroiliac joint to rule out AS. They did take about 6 thingies of blood though so I think they're going through the book!

But By Jeff all this hanging around hospital is dull. And hard work now too as I am bf'ing my ds so he has to come along for the ride!
