I am 44 and the mother of a DS age 2. Ihave always had slightly temperamental skin however recently (the past year) I get these lovely red and sore big bumps around my nose and cheeks. They might hang around for weeks..
I think I have mild rosacea and wash with a mild cleanser but don't know which moisturiser to use. My skin is combination/oily.
All advice/tips most appreciated. Thank you.

Have you seen La Roche-Posay products?

They do a range for rosacea.

I am using one of their other products for very dry sensitive skin and it seems to be helping.

Bickies · 09/05/2011 15:59

Thank you and yes, I know of their products but I've not used them. I will look into them. Thanks again.

Watching this thread with interest, as I have some rosacea, particularly at the sides of my nose.

One thing I've noticed though is that I've been on a very healthy diet - high protien, loads of veg, less carbs - as I'm trying to lose weight, and my skin has improved quite a bit. I still have the basic rosacea but I'm not getting the red spots/blotches.

Bickies · 09/05/2011 16:14

Good for you. May I ask, are you using any particular skin products? Thanks.

While I was in Lanzarote I had two of the most beautiful red and very sore bumps on either side of my nose.. Needless to say I was mortified and went into a chemist there to see if they could help me. The chemist suggested a product range called Be+ so I bought the cleanser and mattifying moisturiser. I noticed a difference almost immediately but ofcourse I can't get these products in Ireland. So, if you are over there you should try them plus they aren't mega £££. I think the cleanser was 12E and the moist was about 13E. They do a whole range and the site is www.bepluslab.com. Now you will need to understand spanish.. which I don't.

My MIL has quite bad roseacea and uses Zineryt which is prescribed by her doctor. Hers was really very bad around her nose and has improved quite a lot since hse started using it.

I'm not sure she has a skin care routine - never noticed any products in her rroom.

I remember googling rosacea and it seems it an be much improved with the right diet.

I have Rosacea and I use Avene products, particularly the skin recovery cream
The only foundation I will use now is Bare Minerals which doesn't aggravate my skin.

Want2bSupermum · 09/05/2011 17:57

I have rosacea and saw a dematologist who pointed me in the right direction. I use a cleanser by neutrogena (Oil-Free Acne Wash Redness Soothing Cream Cleanser) and a moisturizer by aveeno (front says: Ultra Calming daily moisturizer clinically proven to: visibly reduce redness, soothe irritated or sensitive skin with naturally calming feverfew).

With regard to make up I found oil free covergirl works well. I would try and get an appointment with a doctor and see what they say.

Thank you for all of your advice and tips, most appreciated. Afanarf, is skin recovery cream a moisturiser. There are soooo many fancy names for creams that I get muddled also Want2bSupermum (great name by the way, how's that going??)- Thank you for the make up tip. I use Gosh makeup and it doesn't irritate me plus there is brill coverage without feeling heavy.

Also, here's the funny thing. My DS (2) has infantile eczema and as it happened at one of his appts with his Specialist I was in the throes of a breakout so I got cheeky and asked him there and then what he thought. He said Rosacea straight away so I might as well save my few bob and assume he was right.

I'm using L'Occitane Sensitive Skin Ultra Comforting mask - just because I had a sample and everything else was making me red and itchy. I use it as moisturiser. It's been brilliant.
Considering trying the rest of the range.

Bickies Still failing to reach the dizzy heights of super motherhood.... Would settle for being a decent mother!

arfanarf · 09/05/2011 18:35

Yes the skin recovery cream is a moisturiser, I have very dry skin without it, but it also sooths any irritation after being in the wind or sun. Marvelous stuff.

Bickies · 09/05/2011 18:42

Well, I hope there's no such a thing as super motherhood coz if there is, I'm failing miserably..
Thanks again for all your mumsnet wisdom.

Its worth a look at www.skinsalveation.com,their programme includes just about everything for general skin care, although it does specialize in eczema and psoriasis.
The moisturizer does seem to work on many conditions and a friend of mine used it for a similar problem to your own and it cleared up.

Bickies i have recently discovered castor oil !! It is cheap (the manuf. don't want us to use it 'cos they put in much more expen. stuff) Incredibly effective against all skin probs. and helps you sleep!

ppeatfruit · 11/05/2011 11:10

I ordered it from local chemist it is sticky for a few mins then sinks in better than any oils or creams i have used before. Good against fungal infections as well It's fab!

Deaddei · 11/05/2011 11:16

Try the dermalogica ultra flaming range.
My skin is crap in the sun- had a facial last week and she used it last week. amazing.

Deaddei · 11/05/2011 11:16

Ultra calming range that should be- damn predictive iPad!

RamblingRosa · 11/05/2011 11:21

I recommend Dr Hauschka rose cream

Bickies · 11/05/2011 11:49

Thanks again everyone. Sods law, week before hols I am feeling a bud' start on the left side pf my nose, should be a humdinger in time for holidays soooo I have booked in to see my Dr on Fri. Last hol I was on I had one on either side of my nose, massive they were, lovely!!

Ppeatfruit, I have generally oily/combination skin, would the castor oil not be a bit greasy on my face?

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 12/05/2011 11:07

it sinks in beautifully it's worth trying IMO! Also i got a nasty rosacea thing (which the castor oil calmed completely) on my nose after eating burnty food from a barbecue; it's a good idea to look at yr diet.

Bickies · 12/05/2011 18:03

Thank you Ppeatfruit. Yes,I'd say my diet is fairly balanced although I am prone to a wee bit of chocolate now and again and again and again..
Was there a particular spot buster that you used?
I just never know what to put on the blighters!!

ppeatfruit · 13/05/2011 11:06

Yes castor oil! i put it on with a cotton bud at night and if poss. through the day. Sometimes we're allergic to things like vinegar or oranges , tomatoes etc.,I know iam! maybe in yr. case it could be sugar Sad!
