Any pharmacists or medical people out there? Anyone who knows about medicine?

I just took The Little Demon to the docs about his persistent runny stools. Turns out he has an infection. He's been prescribed Nifuroxazide and Ultra Levure together. I've been looking at the first one and some websites seem to indicate that it is not effective at treating diarrhoera, plus I've forgotten how often he told me to give TLD the Ultra Levure. They are capsules, and as he is only 23 months I was told to open the capsule and put it into water. On the info it says 4 capsules a day, so I think I halve that for him. I can't read the doctors writing and the surgery is now closed. I can't find any info about dosage on the web. Can someone just clarify this for me? Any info on these two drugs would also be appreciated!

Every time one of my dcs gets diarrhoera, I give them Ultra Levure. It works a treat to re-balance the flora in the gut. Ultra levure is not harmful so one capsule 4 times a day is fine for a 23 month old. Open it (pull apart) & mix it with some water (not juice or milk, btw!). Can't help with the Nifuroxazide except that it will probably kill most of the healthy bacteria in the gut, which is one of the reasons why your LD has been prescribed Ultra Levure.

Good luck!

Thankyouthankyouthankyou!
Trouble is he won't drink his blumming drink now! Could I just shove the powder straight into his mouth?

little monkey's aren't they? could maybe try mixing it up in food?

Hmm, will try, but am worried he won't get his full dose if he doesn't eat all the food or finish off his drink. Might just pop it all in his mouth then offer a drink after. Or, sudden bright idea! Mix it with a bit of water, put it in a syringe and gush it down his throat! Even better! Might do that now as he's screaming upstairs (nap time, supposedly), that'll teach him for distracting me from Mumsnet!
