Red swollen marks on ankles

nutcracker · 08/11/2005 11:10

Last night I noticed that I had about 3 red marks on the inside of my ankle.

They are red and that part of my leg is swollen and inflammed.

Dp said they are flea bites but the thing is the marks don't itch at all, they are just sore and swollen.

Plus noone else in the house has them.

Any ideas ?

Meant to add that there are now 2 marks on my other leg.

sound like fleas (although its stange that they are not itchy)
try some neat tea tree oil on them.

WigWamBam · 08/11/2005 11:12

Fleas do go for the ankles so they could be flea bites - which don't always itch. Have you got a flea comb that you can check your cat with?

nutcracker · 08/11/2005 11:13

Erm i think we have a flea comb somewhere, will have to hunt it out.

Also meant to add that i found a piccie of a flea bite and it didn't look like one.

I've had non-itchy flea bites before. De-flea your cat anyway, it won't hurt.

Any chance you can get out and show them to a pharmacist?

LIZS · 08/11/2005 12:59

Did you do any unpacking as part of your job yesterday or visit the stockroom/warehouse ? Could be something in the packaging.

{btw isn't it today when you are usually at college and how did it go last night ? }

nutcracker · 09/11/2005 13:48

Liz - Yep I did loads of unpacking. Dp also said it could be that but the odd thing is though, I had boots on so am unsure how anything could have effected my legs.

Having said that, I wasnot working last night and the one mark on my right leg dissapeared although the skin is still a bit sore to touch, and the big lot of marks on my other leg have gone down alot. They are still very sore to touch but not red or swollen.

Am working tonight so will see if the marks flare up again.

Daft question, but could it have been the boots? Or anything like socks that you were wearing underneath them?

nutcracker · 09/11/2005 13:54

I considered that too but have worn the boots and socks loads of times.

They look quite weird now.

I think that you ought to get them checked out - let the pharmacist have a look at them if you can't get to a GP.

nutcracker · 09/11/2005 14:03

Will see if he is available when i get the kids later.

When i went to work last night the marks were barely visable, but when I got home they were back on both legs, really red sore and swollen.

Today they have gone down again.

So it must be something at work, but what ??

I have 3/4 boots on so how is something attacking my ankles ?

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 10/11/2005 14:29

What kind of things are you handling at work, what sort of area are you working in, what sort of materials are you coming in contact with? Are the marks anywhere else, or just around your ankles?

nutcracker · 10/11/2005 14:30

The marks are just on the insides of my ankles.

I am working in Wilkinsons, unpacking anything and everything basically and putting it on the shelves.

tbh as most of the stuff is imported from the Far East there could be all sorts of bugs and dust mites around - they live in the packing filler. Perhaps ask if the stockroom has been sprayed recently.

nutcracker · 10/11/2005 14:32

Good point, will ask them that tonight.

Is there a chance that insects are getting into your boots? Although if it were insects I would have thought you'd be bitten elsewhere as well.

I still think you should either get to the GP or the pharmacist and see what they say.
