Not the most exciting question in the world about periods but something that is bothering me nonetheless!

Hi there

I have recently had an op in February to remove a really quite manky fallopian tube, I still have two ovaries but only one tube. Am also TTC which makes things more complicated.

Anyway, I haven't had a period for 31 days, my ordinary cycle is 24/25 days. I have POAS and am getting negative results and I have to say I don't 'feel' pregnant.

I am not even sure that I have ovulated in the past few weeks, ov test is always negative. So, my question is, do you need to ovulate to have a period? I appreciate this might be slightly dense to get to my thirties without knowing this.. Blush

Have got GP appointment next week to discuss all this but wondered if anyone could shed any light..

TIA

Well, I also only have one working fallopian tube and still get my period monthly. Presumably with two working ovaries you do actually ovulate, just the egg doesn't travel down to the womb. I have heard anecdotally that it is possible for the egg to travel from the 'non-working' side to the functioning tube and thus still get fertilised.

My doctor did tell me there is no truth in the myth that the ovaries release eggs on alternate months. So you will probably have to allow a few cycles before worrying whether things are working OK. Do you get any ovulation pains? I can always tell which side is ovulating - hence whether a TTC effort was worth it or not in any particular cycle.

Good luck!

Thanks for your help ladies, it is much appreciated!

I always used to know when I was ovulating and did get ovulation pain but it seems that since the operation everything is a bit skewiff.. Also, the pain was always, without fail, on the right side, which is where there is no tube now. Brill.

I have also heard that that the eggs can somehow get to the working tube - let's hope so eh?

Thanks again..
