Anyone had these symptoms?

Whilst on holiday last year I became suddenly extremely nauseous. I thought it was a bug at first but the nausea disappeared and came back again over and over for a period of seven months. I thought it had stopped but after a break of nine month it's back.

The only other symptom is loss of appetite (obviously at the time when I feel nauseous) but occasionally at other times too. The nausea and loss of appetite have been pronounced during travel (even by train) but not exclusively so.

I have not actually vomited at all but I have emetophobia and I believe I have trained myself not to vomit. I know this sounds mad ( medics are very sceptical) but I have only vomited once since I was 8 and I'm now 43. Could be coincidence of course.

Last year I had numerous tests and investigations but nothing showed up anything that could explain the nausea.

Has anyone else ever had anything like this? Any ideas appreciated. It's affecting my family as you can imagine.

Do you have any other symptoms with the nausea, like dizziness? As that may indicate an inner ear problem which would account for why you can be more affected by travel.

Have you found eating any particular foods aggravates your nausea?

I have chronic nausea myself, so totally empathise with you. Mine is due to gall bladder motility dysfunction...which is a bit like IBS of your biliary system. My bile doesn't flow well enough, so it leaves me with nausea, but I also have pain along with it too, but not all the time.

Has your dr given you any anti sickness medications?

Have you tried travel sickness bands on your wrists? You get them in Boots..they are designed for stopping travel sickness, but I find them really helpful for nausea, especially as you don't have to swallow a tablet!

Thank you for your reply. I haven't felt dizzy but last year when I saw many doctors an inner ear virus came out as the most likely culprit. I am not sure though. Yes I do have metachlopromide for nausea from my GP. I am currently trying to find something more suited to travel but the usual anti histamines make me too sleepy. I have used the bands too.

Do you have any other symptoms such as a sore/burning or upset stomach? Did they test for ulcers, H Pylori or giardia?

I have no other symbols although I occasionally have a bit of loose stool after feeling nauseous. I did go for a gastroscopy which was aborted but I spent 40 mins with the gastro consultant and he thought it very unlikely that it's anything stomach related. I also took anti acid medication for ages that ddnt make any difference. I'm not sure what the other 2 things are that you mention but I did do a stool sample which might have been for one or both of those.
