allergic reactions to very avoidable food - epipen or not?

I have discovered that I am allergic to avocadoes.
proper anaphylactic allergic (lips swelling, throat, gums and ears itching).
do I need an epipen?
it is not that avocado is sneaked into foods like some other food stuffs?

Yes you can easily avoid those, but it's worth having epipen anyway. My allergy consultant did skin prick tests and I went into anaphylactic shock, I tested allergic to animal fur dander saliva, hair milk and kiwi, Doc advised that I avoid latex as it's apparently relative to kiwi! I am now ok with milk in small amounts but I'm really bad with latex and the worst thing is balloons and the rubber bands that the postman shoves throu my door.
It's worth getting checked and seeing there are other things relative to your allergy to keep an eye on, please get an epipen.

Yes take the epi-pen! If you're reaction is that severe then you're at risk of a 'cross contamination' reaction. That lovely tomato and basil salad clearly doesn't have avocado in it...but what about if they chopped the tomatoes on the same board they'd used for the avocado just before hand...or if it's a buffet then the spoon you're using was in the guacamole before you got there, you can't see it as it's now covered in lovely balsamic vinegar dressing and little bits of basil and tomato pips but the tiny smudge of green hidden beneath it that sneaks onto your plate could kill you.

Sorry if this sounds overly dramatic but if you're at risk of anaphylaxis then the epi-pen could save your life...

Yes - I'd take it too for exactly the reasons Acekicker says, you never know when you're out how food has been prepared. (I'm allergic to shellfish and have seen food preparers in those 'chose your own sandwich filling' places use the same gloves on their hands when handling prawns as when handling other foodstuff. Wrong I know, but it happens, and I think with avocado, people wouldn't even think to keep it separate in preparation because its not such a well known allergy.)
