his having one now do you think we should seek medical attention now or do you think he can wait until tuesday. They haven't lasted for more then a few minutes and he has suffered from them before but they've happened alot these last weeks for no obvious reason.

My DS started with nosebleeds at about the same age, around easter time. They only last a minute or two. It's usually all due to the change in the weather/air pressure. Some people are a bit sensitive like that. My DS is 8 now and hasn't had one yet this year so hopefully he's grown out of it.
Obviously if they last more than a couple of minutes or you are unduly worried then go to your GP.

My DS similiar. Went to GP and they told me to keep a diary of them. If I felt it was that bad they could carry a procedure out but they said it would be horrible for him and kids often grow out of it.

He's 4 now and when he gets one just goes and gets some tissue and deals with it.

this also happens to my son from time to time they also started at a young age,i can garentee if he has one nosebleed he will get 2 or 3 over the next week they also always start very fast.my son no longer panics he now knows exactly what to do he can sometimes sense when hes going to have one and always strangely says he feels much better after having one.

Hayfever?

It seems that these are happening as the pollen count increases. I also get nose bleeds this time of year and once as a child had 14 in a week Shock

Sometimes its repeated nosebleeds as the first one doesn't heel properly and children this age do stick their fingers up their nose or is that just my DS?!

orangehead · 30/04/2011 14:17

Does he have hayfever? ds1 seems to get alot in the hayfever season but not the rest of year.
I used to get loads as a child for as long as I remember often several a day and could last quite a long time. I finally had my nose Cauterised when I was about 15. It was done in outpatients only took a few mins and didnt hurt just an unpleasant fizzy sensation up nose. But can understand how not nice for a younger child. It is tons better since having it done, nose still gets a bit bloody when blow but long nosebleeds

Same here. My eldest went through a phase of regular heavy nosebleeds but has grown out of it now he is 7, just as the gp said he would.

i would wait until tues and go to the GP then. My DS had similar and needed an antibiotic cream to help the scab from the initial bleed to heal, or as other posts say , could be hayfever, dry air....etc, as long as the bleeds dont last long or cause stress then wait. give extra pillows in case of a bleed at night.

I used to get 'torrential' nosebleeds for many years after a nose hitting TV incident age 5. My sons probs are because he picked his too much i think!
