Should I be worrried?

Something playing on my mind, so thought I'd vent a bit,

I was in hospital last week for what they think was an allergic reaction to prawns, while I was there they did a chest x-ray.

The next morning the doctor said, we're not happy with your chest xray as it shows advanced scaring and looks like an x-ray of an elderly lady!

It was then good Friday, there was a short discussion about whether to keep me in, but then decided that I would get a referral and follow up as out patient.

Anyway since then haven't heard a thing, so rang up GP's yesterday, and the receptionist said they had had a letter from the hospital, but she couldn't talk about what was in the letter as it was for the Gp to discuss with me ( the first appointment I can get is next Thursday).
She did say i should get an appointment through from the hospital for further tests but couldn't tell me what they were.

Anyway also since then, I used my daughters peak flow meter to see what my peak flow is and its 250, which is the same as my daughters, surly mine should be higher?

I had Asthma and whooping cough as a child, but not since about 12, I do get out of breath when running around, but I've always had that.

I haven't been to the doctors apart from smears and pregnancy in the last 15 years!

Going to worry myself silly till next Thursday Sad

I had a chest x-ray which showed scarring, - they put it down to the fact that I had whooping cough as a child, - just mentioned that as I see you had it too.

LargeGlassofRed · 29/04/2011 20:04

thanks kurri, did you have any further tests?

No they just said it was there and what it was, - I'd been having a lot of bad chest infections that's why I had the x-ray, and they thought that might be contributing to them.

It hasn't caused me any real problems since (it was years ago), although I do probably get a few more chest infections than average. I've also got lesions on my lungs but they don't seem worried by those either - just check them every so often to make sure they haven't changed. - they showed up on a CT scan.

Try not to worry (easy to say know) - receptionist's won't tell you anything - don't think they're allowed, so don't read anything into that. Smile It may well be left over scarring from your earlier problems, but they always double check everything. Smile

I had a letter today, saying following my recent admission, please could I come back for an x-ray. with an x-ray form enclosed.

Also says I will get an appointment through for a lung function test and an appointment with a respiratory consultant.

On the x-ray form it says admitted april 2011 with an allergic reaction, Incidental finding of bilateral airspace shadowing on cxr
repeat advised

? scared to google!

Hi LargeGlass, - I know it always feels a bit panicky when these appointments come through in writing. Stay away from google -it's not helpful, I think there are lots of things that can cause shadowing/scarring on the lungs, talk it through with your GP when you see him on thursday, tell him you are worried because you haven't been given much information, and he may well be able to reassure you.

I know it feels like ages until you find out what is going on, but I would think the chances of it being nothing too worrying are high Smile Try to keep busy and put it out of your mind for the moment. Take care xx
