After dinner this evening, my stomach was bloated to the size of a person about 6 months pregnant and I was in awful, awful pain. I ate really slowly, sipped water throughout. Dinner was a home made chicken and lentil curry with tenderstem broccoli and wild and basmati rice. The curry also had curry powder, cumin, cashews, natural yoghurt and onion. Dessert was a tiny piece of DD's chocolate easter egg plus a muller corner yoghurt.

We ate about 6.15 but I am still in pain now and my stomach is still huge.

Is there anything in that list that i ate that could have caused this or is it my digestive system just not working properly do you think? I was in a similar situation on sunday and the pain was eased when I had an explosion on the toilet (sorry if tmi) but that isn't happening tonight.

TIA

what was for lunch?

mckenzie · 28/04/2011 20:35

lunch was really brunch (about 11am) as I missed breakfast because I went running after school drop off.
It was a bagel, some fresh mackeral, avocado and tomato.
I also had a soya latte about 1pm and some grapes about 4pm

no idea, but peppermint will help....

mckenzie · 28/04/2011 20:41

thanks supa. I've taken some rennies (out of date by a year but better than nothing huh?) and I've had 2 cups of green tea with mint. I've also done some rolls downs which hurt like hell while I was doing them but in a good way, if you know what I mean.

either bagel or lentils, but I'd say bagel, coz the food stays in the stomach for approx 2hrs, hen slowly moves down...

mckenzie · 28/04/2011 20:47

I didn't realise it took that long. Thanks nightcat, although as I love bagels and toast that wasn't what I wanted to hear. I had some allergy testing done years and years ago and yeast was top of my list of foods to avoid Sad. When I kept a food diary though once when i was having problems with my bowels I couldn't see any connection to the bread.
I think it's time for me to do another food diary. This pain is hideous Sad

Grapes always do this to me and I have to avoid them now - I bloat up massively when I eat them.

FoofffyShmoofffer · 28/04/2011 21:00

I get this and the pain can go on all night (sorrySad). It always starts after my evening meal.

The GP hasn't a clue what it is although Diverticulitis was chucked around but he has finally said stress! To be a honest the only thing I can do when it happens is take the strongest painkiller you have in the house. If this becomes a regular occurence then get yourself back to the Doc.

I am now wheat free now, but used to get bloated around lunchtime after having a roll/bagel for breakfast (plus noisy wind). Wheat also encourages yeast and bacteria overgrowth.

mckenzie · 28/04/2011 22:02

thanks for all the replies. So, I'm going to cut out bread and wheat based cereals and not eat any more grapes and see what happens. I'm pleased DH isn't here tonight as I've been sitting in some weird old positions to try and get comfortable and I'm concerned I might be passing wind in bed Blush

Was it instant rice, containing additives?

mckenzie · 29/04/2011 07:32

yes it was fox! it was on special offer in sainsbury (i'm a marketers dream Smile). I've just checked the packaging and it contains acidity regulator and glucono delta lactone.
