Something in my eye?

Usually wear contact lenses and over the weekend they have been really uncomfortable, especially in my right eye. It feels like I have something in my eye and is sore/scratchy when I blink. I can't see anything in the eye and it's not red or bloodshot.

Should I just see how it goes or see optician/GP?

Have you perhaps torn the contact lens, such that it's rubbing?

queribus · 26/04/2011 19:46

I've had to take them out and wear my glasses because it became so uncomfortable. Every time I blink it feels like I have something in my eye.

Perhaps I'll see what it's like tomorrow?

may have scratched your eyeball, or have dry eye syndrome , if you have any drops put them in as directed and get it checked out. dont know how old you are but dry eyes are another thing to look forward to in old age. i know this as i am v v old. dont take chances with your eyes.

Don't have any drops.

Don't think I'm old (39), but I feel it after the Easter holidays! I did have trouble taking a lens out so maybe I've slightly scratched my eye.

Thanks for replying.

You might have a blocked gland along the rim of your eyelid (either top or bottom). Can you see a small bump? This would have irritated your lens when it was in and now irritating your eyeball. Its quite common.

Try bathing your eye with water as hot as you can stand then massage the eyelid from the inner corners outwards.

Could be an ingrowing eye lash. Really iritating every time you blue.k. I had this a few years ago. Went to go who couldn't see anything so sent me to opticians. She put some dye in my eye, got a huge magnifying glass and said the surface of my eye was covered in little scratches. Found the offending eyelash and plucked it. Instant relief and no problems since

Sorry - blink and gp

Contact lens wearers should go and see the the person who supplies them with lens in these situations.

The contact lens related problems are normally outside of a G.P.s comfort zone and can start mild and get worse.

Get it looked at.

Sounds like it could be a corneal abrasion. Google it. Get it checked out by optician first thing. Otherwise a small bit of contact lens may be stuck

madhattershouse · 27/04/2011 00:41

Any chance that it's due to high pollen count??? Just a thought!

ilovemyhens · 27/04/2011 23:25

It sounds like a corneal abrasion. I've had two because of contact lenses. It will probably need treatment and you should arrange to see either the GP or attend an eye hospital if you have one in your area.

Treatment for a corneal abrasion involves removing the little bit of damaged cornea then applying an antibiotic eye ointment frequently until the scar heals. This is done after local anaesthetic drops are applied to the eye.

go and get it checked out as eye problems can be nasty, but it could just be an infection. the doc can put some dye in your eye to see if you have scratched it or introduced dirt with your fingers

Wamster · 28/04/2011 10:38

Yes, if you can, get it checked out. Put everything else aside, and get it sorted. You don't know what it is, so get it seen.
