Probiotics- can you get them in a non-dairy/ non-soya format?

DS is 10 months and it looks like I need to go and get his third set of antibiotics. He has bronchitis . The last time he had AB's they were for an ear infection and a throat infection. Not only did they have no effect on the throat infection, they also gave him a very upset tummy for a week . He has a milk allergy so I can't give those probiotic yoghurts. Can you get probiotics in any other form? Liquid, powder etc?

Obviously no good to those of you with Allergic kids, but my DS1 is intolerant (casein we think) and we gave prebiotic youghurt drinks on the advice of his nutritionist. It gives an hour 'window' where he can tolerate dairy. I confirmed this with the BIBC nutritionist and she agreed, just thought might be useful to someone.

The upset tummy could cause temporary lactose intolerance, but as he already has a milk allergy I doubt you would notice.

In such a young un, the gut is still leaky, especially in allergic children. The ABs could delay the sealing of the gut because they kill all the good bacteria the gut needs to do that.

Probiotics do nothing bad - honestly they are just bacteria that should be in the gut anyway. If he's old enough for antibiotics - he is old enough to have gut bacteria.

And also probiotics are increasingly being found in baby formula. It wouldn't be enough evidence for me on it's own, but when added up together with everything else...

I would ask your doctor if you are nervous (just about the harm aspect - some doctors don't believe they actually do any good).
