Just noticed that some MN's dh's have this. Wondered if I could share a few thoughts and opinions on it?

gluten free diet has been proved to be effective in treating SOME cases of psoriasis (and by extension some PsA)

it is very easy nowadays to go gluten free as all major supermarkets stock ranges that are relevant

if you need more info I can dig some out

So does the gluten free diet work (ever) on PA or just the skin element of psoriasis Twiglett?

Forgot to say, we have asked and asked about Remecaide.. current doc. has said that he has to work up to a max. dose Methatrexate first.. whatever a max dose is.. he has not actually said no but I suspect that's what the answer is really. Dh only sees the consultant annually now.. he sees the rheumatology nurse practrioner more regularly.

We used to be very assertive the first couple of years after he was diagnosed, thinking that with the right combination of treatment, the PA would come under control.. but I suppose we have lost hope of that somewhat over the years. Do you think DH should be asking for a re-hash of his treatment?

Ooops sorry, just seen the bit where you have mentioned gluten free and PsA

he sounds in a pretty bad way Jess and yes I think I would be going in demanding they try new drugs .. but I totally get the giving up feeling as I think DH feels that nothing more can be done too (although he doesn't seem as bad as your DH to be fair)

Just asked him and he said they didn't give him a maximum dosage but it should be pretty low for PsA .. he seems to feel that 20mg is quite high (and possibly responsible for the vomiting)

DH's rheumy says they have to try them on at least 3 different traditional drugs before even trying the biologicals .

Personally I think you have to scream and shout sometimes and be demanding .. which is difficult for those with chronic ailments because they do lose hope

also DH's initial diagnosis was Ankylosing Spondilitis and PsA .. because of neck and back involvement .. PsA tends to go from extremeties inwards whereas AS from the back outwards .. there isn't a chance there's another diagnosis for him is there (makes no difference as same cocktail of drugs really)

Dh has tried diets, he once travelled to Thailand and pretty much just ate rice and fish, but no visible improvements with his psorasis. The sun can help, but this year he got sunburned on his thigh and it has just turned into a new large patch of psorasis.

He has used Dovonex and Dovobet. He became immune to Dovonex and didn't like the skin-thinning that Dovobet caused. Plus, as usual, once he stops treatment the condition comes back worse than ever!

I have written down the names of a few creams suggested on here for him though.

I have psoriosis and psa, I find a gluten free diet helps more so with the psa than the skin in my case.I also found reflexology to be helpful, when it was really bad I was lucky to be able to have it once a week, when i started I cuold barely walk 200yds and was in great pain. Now if I keep off the wheat I don't usualy need to take any painkillers and I walk alot.
