Don't want a tonsillectomy - how do I reduce occurences?

Have tonsillitis resulting in quincy at least 3-4 times a year, have now become expert at spotting it before it gets too bad and GP is great at just giving me antibiotics when I ask as he knows that it progresses quickly and my history.

I am reluctant to have operation as I am terrified of aneasthetic. Does anyone know what supplements/vitamins would help boost my immune system or anything specific for tonsils?

dont know how you could stop this happening but I had the same thing years ago and had my tonsils out at age 24,best thing I ever did.I would get over your dislike of aenasthetics and go for it.

ditto Lilyliz, had mine out at 22.

Didn't realise until after how very ill I had been, and how rubbish I had felt ALL THE TIME, until they came out. They were poisoning me, and the regular anti-biotics weren't doing me any good, either.

What is it about the anaesthetic that terrifies you?

I had this problem to the extent that I was resistant to virtually every antibotic there was as I took so many . But i was v young and eventually grew out of it. The b antibiotics ruined my teeth. I think as an adult the op may be the alternative as eventually you will find antibiotics stop working. It takes years to get back natural immune system in some cases and it is now apparent that antibiotics are no longer working for other infections as well. i ould hope you never find yourself in that positon but recent coverage suggests there are so many new bugs around that cannot be treated. anasthetics are only a problem in as much as until you have one you will never know. They do all sorts of tests beforehand anyway. The irony of it all is that you could go into hospital and get another infection: I think that bugs lurking around are more of a danger than anaesthetic. If in doubt, go private or to a teaching hospital

Get them out. Unpleasant but frankly the tonsilitis can be worse.
