hi

i have the tiniest of moles just above my elbow, it really is tiny, but its itchy, i keep scratching it forgetting its there, then it sort of scabs over and is ok again, it is quite dark in colour and slightly raised, but probably the size of a pin head.

its not grown in size, i forget it until it itches. its so small i would feel a bit of a loon going to the gp with it.

i dont go to the gp routinely or i would ask about it while there for something else...

i have very very pale skin. i have learned over the years that pursuit of a tan is a pointless exercise for me because i dont tan, ever, BUT i did for a time in my 20's go on sunbeds (not often, and not regularly, but maybe as summer was coming i would book a course of 6 or something and use them up, i did this perhaps 5 times or so)

i arent a sun worshipper. only been abroad a couple of times., but as a child i did burn.

i dont really sit out. if its very hot and i know im going out i put sun screen on.

is this tiny weeny little mole worth a trip to the gp?

yes

Yes. Your local hospital might have a mole clinic where you will be seen by people who know what they're doing and noone will begrudge you for having it checked out. If anything, it will put your mind at rest.

KurriKurri · 22/04/2011 17:28

Anything that's nagging at your mind enough to make you ask on here is worth a trip to the GP, if only to set your mind at rest. They never mind you going and asking about moles.

Whatevs · 22/04/2011 17:28

Yep. You should definitely get any mole that is itchy, sore, scabby or changes in any way checked out asap.

ok...

i will go and get it seen. im crap at procrastinating but i will go. thank you.

It doesn't have to be huge to be wrong...most melanomas are over 5-6mm diameter but some are smaller.

You GP might well tell you to go home, it's nothing to worry about, but you can ask for a referral to a dermatologist for your peace of mind.

No GP can tell you if something is melanoma or not. Not even a derm can diagnose without biopsy, so don't be fobbed off. It's probably nothing but don't risk it.

FoofffyShmoofffer · 23/04/2011 08:50

I have so many moles I would make an interesting yet abstract dot to dot.

Get it checked out. If it turns out to be nothing to worry about you won't be made to feel stupid. Honestly. Moles are not to be ignored. I am going to the GP with one after Easter.

cheers guys,

i will go and get it seen. im pretty sure im being a bit daft about it tbh, i checked the cancer uk website, but it does say if a mole is itchy or scabby to go get it checked so i will. It doesnt look like any of the pictures of suspicious moles but even so, i think ill get it checked just because it is itchy, and of course it scabs over cos i keep scratching it! thanks again. x
