My DH has had a locked neck for 2 days - what can he do?

First available GP apt in 3 weeks!

Conflicting advice - does heat help or not?

He's taking ibuprofen but it's not touching it...

Any experience / advice?

Tia

3 weeks?
Can he get to a physiotherapist instead?

Katisha · 20/04/2011 22:56

GP would probably only send him to one anyway?

ja9 · 20/04/2011 22:58

physio? Is that what he should try? Didn't know if it was chiropodist or what. Will suggest that, thanks.

See if there's a physio-type clinic and ring them for advice maybe?
I don't know if it should be physio or osteopath or what, but there will probably be a clinic in your town that can tell you.

Thanks katisha

You mean chiropractor?

bruffin · 20/04/2011 23:12

I used to get wry neck every so often. It is the muscle in the neck going into spasm. It takes about a week to go and the first couple of days are really awful.

Go for an emergency appointment with GP, if it is still bad they can give you diazepam to help relax the neck muscle. You don't need to see an osteopath or chiropractor, I very much doubt they can do anything, in fact it may make matters worse.

ja9 · 20/04/2011 23:21

oops, yes, chiropractor. Not feet!

Caution - potentially bad advice coming up - but I've had muscle spasms before and self-medicated with alcohol as a muscle-relaxant before I could get to the Drs for diazepam. But 3 weeks for a Drs appointment is rubbish - was he not making himself clear to the receptionist? Should you maybe phone yourself?

LovelyJudy · 21/04/2011 00:52

my dd had this, we went to a&e as we weren't sure what was causing her neck stiffness, and they gave her diazepam too.

GKlimt · 21/04/2011 01:22

Change your GP. Not acceptable.

easycomeeasygo · 21/04/2011 20:45

I'd say take him to A & E or even your local out of hours g.p. this happened to me turned out it was something to do with my Trapezius muscle, but anyway...I wouldn't bother with the docs.

ja9 · 21/04/2011 20:55

Thanks everyone. He got an emergency apt today with GP. Got pills. Is feeling 100 times better. Thank you.
