DH has been diagnosed with this 2 1/2 yrs ago & been taking Voltarol & Kapake on & off for the same duration. Has now been suggested he have cortisone injections into the hip.

Has anyone had bursitis for this long & does cortisone sort it out?
TIA Smile

Hi, my mum has fibromyalgia and gets these injections at times she is really bad. She finds them a help but only if the injection gets given in exact spot of the pain. This is not always successful as sometimes the injection is not quite at the bursa and then doesn't work.

They must be a help or she wouldn't keep getting them....she isnt the best at going to the dr if she isn't well...!!

I know they are fairly painful injections to get, but my mum looks in it that if it makes the bursa pain go away for a while the pain of the injection is worth it.

I've had this, not for as long though and I really sympathise. Frankly I'm amazed it's taken this long for him to be offered cortisone - my GP gave me anti-inflammatories for a month, then I chose to try them for another month and then I had the injection. (I've had cortisone injections in my shoulder which failed completely and hurt like hell which is why I was a bit wary.)

However, I had it in my hip a couple of months ago and it is almost gone - enough for me not to bother with any pills, although if I stand around or walk too much it's a bit sore. The injection itself wasn't particularly bad, and they give a local beforehand but I will admit that after the local wore off it hurt like bloody hell for the best part of 24 hours, really really hurt, couldn't sleep, and just couldn't get comfortable - a bit like the original bursitis pain. After that the pain reduced and was just about gone by day 3, and as I said the hip seems to be holding up pretty well.

So I would recommend that he has one (I think you can have up to 3 in the same place), but don't be conned that it won't hurt. BUT, having dealt with it for as long as he has, I should think 24/48 hours pain is peanuts really!

I've had this for bursitis. I also have a snapping hip.
Yes had injection. Took away element of bursitis but not the cause ie snapping hip.
Def have injection. It hurts a little as it's a local anaesthetic
Then it's fine. Dont look at needle it's f'ing huge.

Has he had physio to determine cause of bursitis?
Anyway I cope as long as I don't jog, walk too fast or sit on the floor. At all!! Such a princess.
