um, what difference do you think going to a different hospital will make? The procedure fo rthe scan will be exactly the same. If your hubby is that anxious you can ask for sedation

Hmmmmmmmmm

NomDePlume · 02/11/2005 13:01

I think lisalisa is asking if anyone knows which hospitals in London/surrounds have an OPEN MRI scanner and not the closed in 'tunnel' ones.

NomDePlume · 02/11/2005 13:02

as her DH felt very claustraphobic in the closed one.

foxinsocks · 02/11/2005 13:04

They are horrible those closed in ones - did the hospital not know of any other ones? I would have thought the best option would be to ask for mild sedation (I think they can do this).

foxinsocks · 02/11/2005 13:07

The Cromwell has one

foxinsocks · 02/11/2005 13:12

There are also a few here

Think you would have to ask Hammersmith where the nearest NHS one was.

bundle · 02/11/2005 13:13

I'd imagine they're mainly in private hospitals, but that's just a guess

uwila · 02/11/2005 13:31

Oh Lisa, sorry about your DH. I guess this means he's off work. How are you? You're due next month, aren't you?

renaldo · 02/11/2005 13:38

The quality of the scan is much better in a closed one - why dont you go with him ans stay in the room with him during the scan?

jambuttie · 02/11/2005 14:12

sympathise lisalisa as I attempted to have MRI at bupa and felt like i was about to go into a furness. was also strapped down and I freaked out

hope all gets sorted soon

Bloody Hell... next week?! And your DH is flat on his back in pain. Forget him, poor you! (just kidding... sort of) You are having a section aren't you? Is next week the section or the due date... or both?

Man, Lisa, you don't suffer a dull life.

DS is wonderful. Such a perfect little cutie. And the new nanny is working out wonderfully... yea!!

Have you picked a name yet? Have you got lots of help lined up for the other zillion kids in the lisalisa house while you recover?

How's your nanny / au pair situation?

I had a suspected slipped disc, saw a consultant at The Princess Grace on Monday and wanted an MRI scan there and then but they couldn't do it so referred me straight away to 30 Devonshire Steet W1- that is the name of the clinic - and they were able to do me straight away. Radiographer reads the scan that evening and the doc gets the results in the morning. Fabulous. I had a form to fill in with my details and the next form asking me to tick the music I wanted to hear!!!! From classical to Coldplay.

The radiographer updates you down a microphone how long the buzzing noise takes.

I do have a slipped disc (after 4.5wks of agony and an ineffective osteopath) and have been referred to a physiotherapist. The sooner your DH is scanned, the sooner he can be remedied.

Good luck.

Hi Lisalisa. Actually, re-reading your post asking for an open MRI scanner, it wasn't at 30 Devonshire, unless they do have one and I just went under the enclosed one. Apologies.

Re: treatment, the consultant is a firm supporter of Pilates (which I started two weeks ago out of desperation) but has referred me to a Phsiotherapist in Harley Street whom I shall see on Wednesday for a consultation. He also recommended that I have an epidural. I told him that I am not going near any needles for the time being!! I hate them! Also I feel that if you are in pain, it is there for a reason and if that is numbed by an anaesthetic, how can you remedy it?

I would be interested to know what treatment your DH is prescribed. Not knowing that I had a slipped disc I was told by my osteopath "See me every or every other day, keep moving, apply ice and don't worry, it's just a phase." I could hardly walk/bend down/sit/lie/lift a child and I am wondering if I had seen a back doctor much sooner if he would have advised me to rest?
