my father needs one as he is struggling to get up stairs...what should we be paying for one?

We have just had one put in for my mum, but for the life of me I can't remember how much it was. I do know that it was lots less than Stannah, and was a local company. You could ask someone at the gp's, or see if there is a mobility place in your local town but I would def go local if you can. The ones via Help the Aged etc are ££££££'s

It's a godsend, even though she didn't want she is now very grateful for it.

Have you talked to your local council Occupational Therapy Department? Your dad may be entitled to financial help via the Disabled Facilities Grant?

We got a re-conditioned one for my Dad from someone local who specialised in new and second hand and it was about 30% of the cost of the new one we got a quote for.

Beware if buying re-conditioned stairlifts, especially if a curved track is needed...they have a bad reputation for breaking down. It's a while since I worked for the council OT department but I always found Stannah and Meditech gave good service. Definetely get more than one quote and find out about aftercare service and how quickly they respond to a breakdown.
