Surgery aftercare

Hi Ladies, on Thursday I had an Oophrectomy (ovary removal) and because I was walking (shuffling really), eating and going to the toilet, they sent me home on Friday. The problem is, they didn't tell me what I'm supposed to be doing about the wound or if I'm supposed to go to the doctors. I wasn't even given any painkillers which was a surprise considering it was open surgery. Hmm

I was literally given a pamphlet by the physiotherapist, told to take it easy and how to do a couple of abdominal exercises before going home. The wound itself is around 12cm long and exactly like a caesarian one and is currently covered in a honeycomb dressing.

What am I supposed to do about it? Do I just let the dressing fall off naturally, do I go and see my GP about it and get them to remove it or change it and when it does come off, other than no bubble bath and unscented products, what else am I supposed to do to keep it clean? I'm completely lost and confused about the whole thing.

All help would be gratefully appreciated right now.

Ring your GP's surgery in the morning to see the nurse. They'll help you.

Ring the ward for advice.

Thanks for the replies Smile

I don't have the ward's phone number so I'll try to go through the switchboard and if I can't get through, I'll go to the GP tomorrow.
