Hiya.

I had this done last year via laparoscopy. It's done under general anaesthetic but as a day case usually. There were 3 small incisions made, in my bellybutton and on either end of my bikini line so there were a couple of stitches in each.

I came round feeling very sore and bloated, like a bad period but it subsides over a few days and I was back at work a week later. My periods are a lot lighter now, but I also have to use hormonal contraception to stop me ovulating so I don't know how much that is affecting it IYSWIM.

The one thing they go on about is that you need to not be planning any more DCs as it affects the body's ability to sustain a pregnancy. Not an issue for me anymore Smile

I did have some complications but it's not usually the case I'm told.

What is worrying you most?

Yes I have had this done. But I was not told anything about it affecting my body sustaining a pregnancy!! In fact I was encouraged to have it as I wanted to conceive and was told that removeing my endometriosis woudl have a positive effect on my fertility. I went on to conceive the following year!

The actual procedure is really nothing to worry about. I had general anesthetic and had no lasting effects.

I am just concerned about the anaesthetic. Am also concerned about the probability of no more children. I am getting it done to prevent me from having period at all and you are saying that you still had them??> I wanted a hysterectomy and was recommended to have this instead.

Sorry Bargainhunting betty - I am taking rubbish, I was thinking about lazer treatment I had for my endometriosis so disregard everything I said!!!!!

I had this done some years ago and it has worked very well for me.

I had very heavy painful periods. After the op I had a small amount of bleeding while healing. Then I had very light periods every few months, they then got futher and futher apart till they stopped and I have never had one since.

I had it done as a day case and went home the same day.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread, as I remembered reading it at the time...

I had this done last week - it was under general anaesthetic and like you I was worried more about the anaesthetic than the ablation. So far so good for me. I'd started my period the day before the procedure and as I had no mirena coil (removed at the hysteroscopy a couple of weeks earlier) I had bad period pains for a few hours after the procedure but suspect that was as much my period as the ablation. The ablation itself has gone fine. I threw up after the anaesthetic but had been warned that was likely due to previous medical history. They pumped me full of anti-nausea meds and pain killers and I went home after about 6 hours. I've been off work this week due to being extremely tired but will be back next week.

You need to talk to your consultant re the no more children thing though. It was made very clear to me that you still need contraception after it as you could get pregnant but your body would struggle to sustain the preganancy. Not an issue for me as DH has had the snip and we're done having children though.

Oddly I'm actually quite excited about next month's period as I want to see how well it's worked!
