My 6 month dd has cradle cap, not even yellow, just brown small bits on top of head - don't come off, can't pick off - tried that nasty dentinox?? is that what its called, can't remember and some oil. Neither works. Can't tell if she has dark brown hair or ginger!! Anyone got a magic cure?

my ddd is 4 and still has it and its getting worse but she wont let me near her with a brush or anything..she seems to have a really sensitive scalp..

bigdonna · 02/11/2005 14:43

when my dd had cradle cap i put warm olive oil on her head left it over night then next morning combed it out and washed hair.

julesgs · 02/11/2005 14:54

Both my dd's had the horrible cornflake cradle cap but dd2's turned into light cradle cap/dry skin and just wouldn't go away until I started using Trinity Soap and Shampoo, a shampoo/body wash for her eczema
\link{http://www.elenascollection.co.uk/indexjs.html} and it vanished straight away and has stayed away. It's not cheap but it worked.

I went to see a chinese herbalist in my local town. He gave me some liquid wash and it worked wonders! Can be expensive but does the trick.

olive oil

Kidstrack2 · 02/11/2005 19:05

Lynny70 I used the exact same method with my 2, my health visitor recommended the olive oil when my ds was a baby and it worked a treat it never returned, and when my dd was 4m she got it and I did same treatment with her and I also used the nit comb to comb it all out as dd has masses of hair. Have to agree though would never leave it to go away by itself as my sisters 2 boys built up into a skin/scalp condition they are now 5 and 6 and thier scalp is not completely clear.

Thanks everyone, I will work through the list! If its not gone in a month I will post you all again, ta.

Brush hair regularly with soft brush and especially after washing/drying hair when scales have gone soft. Fab results

figleaf · 03/11/2005 14:36

I`ve used the nit comb too - works a treat after head has been wet for a while.

Head and SHoulders for sensitive hair I first used it when Gracie (one today!!!) was a few months old. Olive oil seemed just to cruel and none of the cradle cap shampoos worked for her.
Give it a go. Just a little bit.
Cheers

My gorgeous but very scaley boy has been through the lot...olive oil, dentinox, capascal (now his head is even more red and inflamed than it was before). I was looking for something that might be less harsh and more natural!!! I'm a first time poster on this site...good to know there's so much advice out there!

bossykate · 03/11/2005 20:06

aveeno cream - magic cure in 2/3 days. this happened after 4m of an olive oil/fine tooth comb/dentinox shampoo regime - which stopped it getting worse but didn't clear it.

definitely aveeno.

Candide · 03/11/2005 20:43

Castor oil was more successful than olive oil which just turned my kids heads yellow. Its more sticky. Leave on overnight and rub off in morning with damp cloth/ flannel. But actually in the end I resorted to hats as was too lazy to do all that picking and rubbing.

topsyturvey · 03/11/2005 20:56

I'll try aveeno...thanks...you've probably said already but I can't see it, is that a dr thing or a boots over the counter thing?

dazedandconfusedmum · 03/11/2005 21:24

Hi,

I have 4 boys and they all have it. I agree with the whole not brushing the hair thing, as mine all have shaved heads!!! (apart from the baby who just doesn't have any hair at the moment, rubbed it all off in his sleep)! I got rid of it last year on the older three just by using baby oil and a nit comb. It cost nothing as I had them already, just time. I sat them infront of the TV and did it while they watched a programme they liked. also, as I didn't want to do the baby (who is now the toddler) I had a lovely neighbour who couldn't wait to get her hands on it after doing her baby's and did it for me.

I must admit though, a year later and they all have it again!! I will try uding a brush on them (even though there isn't hardly any hair on their heads) just as a preventitive and see if that keeps it at bay.

don't waste money on loads of fancy products though, the old methods are the best (aren't they always)!!

I just used olive oil on DD's (after reading this earlier) and it's much reduced after a rub with a rough flannel. Thing is, I now realise she has even less hair than I thought she did. And I thought it was a lovely shade of honey blonde too... No, it's white.

bossykate · 04/11/2005 09:53

you can get aveeno at boots or superdrug. for some reason they don't have it out on the shelves, you have to ask for it at the pharmacy counter, even though it's not on prescription.

missd · 04/11/2005 14:16

TopsyTurvey, All of our products are organic and will sooth the skin underneath the cradle cap.
The liquid soap is a no tears formula and can be used as a general soap and not just as a cradle cap shampoo. (it's great for taking your make0upoff and shaving your legs) and the gel is a general all round first aid product.
Please contact me if you want more info on the products.
