Would you rather have acne or put on a stone?

I've never had brilliant skin but since having DC2 it's been terrible. I'm never without at least 2 or 3 large red spots and several small ones on my face and more on my chest and back. Everywhere I look ladies have lovely clear glowing skin and it's really getting me down. I've tried everything (drinking tons of water, cheap and expensive skin cleansers/creams, just soap and water etc.)

It's clearly hormonal and the doctor has suggested I go on the pill to try and sort it out. I don't want any more DCs but the last time I was on the pill (many years ago) I put on loads of weight and couldn't shift it. I'm back to my pre-pregnancy weight (size 10) and am scared it would happen again.

What would you prefer - to put on the weight and be spot-free or spend your life piling on the concealer?

I'd rather put on weight and wear clothes to flatter than go out with a bag on my head lots of caked on make up.
I had awful spots after having DD but they cleared up within 6 months.

id love to put on a couple of stone!unfortunatly the pill never did that for me!
if it was me,id go on pill and diet and exercise for weight gain.

I had acne for years and took dianette which gave me gorgeous skin. I don't remember putting on any weight either.

Acne.

Ask your GP for a referral to a dermatologist. There are other options. DD has just finished a course of roaccutane. She had been taking anti biotics for over a year with no effect. The dermatologist offered an option of stronger anti biotics which the GP wouldn't have been able to provide. Offered the contraceptive pill too, but that wasn't an option I wanted. Roaccutane can have very bad side effects and you will have to use two methods of contraception while taking it - and have a monthly pregnancy test.

I'd rather put on a stone.

suwoo · 09/04/2011 16:42

I have actually had to think about this for a good while. Sorry that it is a genuine dilemma for you. The acne would be harder for me I think.

You may have a hormone imbalance which can be helped by camomile supplements . or allergies to wheat, or tomatoes etc. keep up with the water and lots of fresh fruit and veg.

WinlessChunder · 09/04/2011 16:53

ppeatfruit - I've thought about allergies. As my skin has got so much worse since my DD I discounted it as I thought you couldn't suddenly get an allergy. Is this right?

Definitely put on a stone - having suffered with spots for about 15 years (apart from my 2 pg's) I have finally found a cure for them and my self-esteem has increased so much Smile

You can (almost) disguise putting on a stone but you can't hide your face with huge red spots on it Sad

ceebeegeebies · 09/04/2011 16:57

Btw I tried Dianette and it gave me the strangest side-effects Hmm Also tried antibiotics which did work but the spots came back as soon as I stopped taking them and obviously cannot take those for the rest of my life!!

IHeartKingThistle · 10/04/2011 01:26

I'd rather put on the weight. I had acne for years and years and it was just awful. I'm still grateful for clear skin 7 years after it went away.

laInfanta · 10/04/2011 01:32

I'd rather put on a stone

But fuck that shit, make your GP find you a pill that doesn't give you side effects! It can be done - there are about 14 different types of pill, some are more expensive than others and GPs prescribe the cheapest first under the assumption that you will come back for a change if it messes with you.

Or get medication for acne

ppeatfruit · 10/04/2011 12:46

winlesschunder IMO & E you CAN suddenly get allergies; try cutting wholewheat no one realises you can be allergic to it even the best organic wholemeal bread.

CanAussie · 10/04/2011 22:15

If they're hormonal spots, look at taking some natural herbs that can help regulate your hormones. I used to take loads when I went off Diannette (I have PCOS) and got spots again (though with my poor memory now, I can't remember what they were!) and they calmed my skin right down. Also, try fish oil supplements, which worked as well.
