How to find a good physiotherapist?

I need to find a good, bona fide physiotherapist for my mother who suffers from parkinsons disease. The waiting list in her area for nhs help is very long, so I am looking into private options.

I have found one in her area through the parkinsons disease society, but would like to try to find some more (the one I have found is not particularly close to her). I've found some more through the yellow pages, but how do I check out their credentials? Do physiotherapists belong to some kind of guild?

Any tips to help my search would be much appreciated.

We belong to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and the Health Professions Council.

iCan you ask the consultant who he would recommend?

Thanks to both of you. Grumpypants, it was the parkinsons nurse rather than the consultant she saw, but I will suggest giving her a ring to see if she can recommend a private physiotherapist.

i found a physio (private) via the consultant (also private) - tbh i would prob go with one who also worked in the nhs but did private referrals.

You could try this (hope it?s OK to post link):

You should definitely make sure you use a Chartered Physio and if your mother has private health insurance they?ll also need to be Bupa (or whoever) approved if her treatment is to be covered. HTH
