What are you worried about? The anaesthetic, the possible results? If she needs an injection e.g. contrast dye or is unlikely to stay still for the MRI then being asleep may be best for her. The risks of anaesthetic are tiny and she will be well-monitored. Some MRI centres will let you be in the same room or the obs. room for reassurance - this may be different as she'll be asleep. Can you be with her when she is anaesthetised and when she wakes? If you've particular reasons to worry about the anaesthetic then perhaps other options e.g. sedation are possible.

I've had one but I didn't need to have a GA. I had some valium beforehand because I don't like being in a coffin! Otherwise, no problem for an adult.

She is having a general anaesthetic as she is 14 months which I am concerned about. But more wondered where they put the dye, what they do, how long does it take etc

Thingone how long dis the results take? Can they see straight away?

Depending on the equipment she may not need contrast dye (I've had them with and without.) It sounds like you'd be better off speaking to someone at the hospital for detailed answers as we can only speculate on the procedure.

I normally have any contrast injected through a cannula in my arm. If they are giving her a GA, they'll probably have to put the cannula in first, so they can put the GA through it but I don't know, I'm afraid. On the babies and GA issue maybe you might get a better response in children's health? Or repost here with that heading? There are loads of people on here who know about this sort of thing.

I've had loads of scans (MRI, CT, Xray). If it's super urgent they can give you the results that day, but that is not the norm. I had my angiogram so a surgeon could see what muscle he should use, and how, for a major rebuilding operation. So this definitely wasn't an urgent one, and I didn't need to know the results.

I think it would be worth ringing the consultant's secretary to find out when you are likely to hear.
