she doesnt seem unwell apart from today when she did look pale and black eyes etc.

i took her to the doctors yesterday and he told me to leave it for another week!!!!!

in 4 hours i have used 7 nappies.

shall i take her back, really do not think its right.....do you?

I would take her back it sounds like it's gone on for too long and not getting any better. Hope I'm not being too obvious by saying don't give her any dairy or fruit and veg as hard to digest. just give stuff like dry toast or crackers and water.

the thing is she only eats dairy and fruit and veg, but she will eat toast so will just give her that for the weekend.

LucyKatie - in the spring my dd 9much older than yours she's 7) had diahorrea for 9 weeks - I was on Mumsnet all the time about it. She did get better and the dr kept telling me to stop worrying

Buas you dd is so little I'd go back to the Dr with her

MamaG · 28/10/2005 22:43

Poor little thing - I'd go back to Docs too.

princesspeahead · 28/10/2005 22:46

why don't you drop by the surgery, pick up a sterile jar, put some poop in it, and drop it back saying you want it sent to the lab for culture. they won't refuse - then you only need to go through the seeing the doctor palaver if they culture anything.

I think a whole week at that age could mean that she has something in there. 7 nappies in 4 hours CAN'T be right.

doormat · 28/10/2005 22:49

have you got any diarolyte (dont know how to spell it properly)
stop giving milk and dairy and fruit and veg as others have suggested until runs have stopped
keep giving plenty of fluids
flat lemonade with some water can boost sugar levels
go to the docs again

these are some of the tips I have used when kids have had the runs

princesspeahead · 28/10/2005 22:50

she can't stop giving milk dairy fruit and veg if that is all she eats!
go get her poo tested

doormat · 28/10/2005 22:52

pph I have always been told by gp's to stop the milk, dairy whilst the kids have had the runs
only passing on that advice

doormat · 28/10/2005 22:53

agree with you to get poo tested

Loobie · 29/10/2005 13:16

Definately put in a sample to get it tested ,the black eyes are a sure sign of dehydration, get as much fluids as possible down her to rehydrate her or she will egt really ill/er
Also try giving her some probiotics to help rebalance her gut cause all the good bacteria will all be washed out leaving her run down and vulnerable to more infection poor little lamb.

NotQuiteCockney · 29/10/2005 13:20

Dioralyte is a good idea. It tastes reasonably good, and can help get the gut working again.

You should push the GP a bit if that doesn't sort it.

hello lucykatie, this is lucykate!

our dd had it bad when she was about 10 months and we were back and forth to the docs as she'd just recovered from a stomach bug too and already lost weight. really all they could suggest is lots of fluid but what we did was go 24hrs with giving her nothing but water to give her insides a rest, no food at all and began the next morning with toast and built up from there. lasted nearly 2 weeks altogether. and we were like you, still get shivers when i think back to 'the night of nine nappies'. hope she gets better soon.
